The Governing Board has given its approval today to the award, through a negotiated procedure, of the 'Drafting service for the basic project of the entire building and the execution project for the construction management of the first phase of the building of the former Provincial Prison of Murcia'.
The contract has fallen to Mr. Manuel Hernández Jiménez and has a price of 222,000 euros, of which 12,000 correspond to the first prize awarded after the contest of ideas.
In this way they begin to compute the deadlines for the final delivery of the projects, being three months the time for the presentation of the basic project and two more months for the delivery of the execution project.
It must be remembered that the Basic Project will be the one that establishes the homogeneity between the two phases: the first one that affects the head of the building, and the second that includes the back part of it.
According to the forecasts, the execution project of phase 1 will be tendered in summer so that the works can be contracted in September so that the recovery works of the Old Prison can begin before the end of this year.
The winning project of the first prize of the contest of ideas, 'Muros etéreos', of the IH architects studio and whose authorship corresponds to Manuel Hernández Jiménez and Alejandro Ibáñez Benzal, will serve as the basis for the drafting of the basic execution project, which has a deadline three months
The proposal of IH Architects is fundamentally about revealing the building to the city and connecting it with it looking for the recovery of the building and the adjacent spaces, with a visual connection and real entrance to the existing courtyards and the creation of permeable elements that replace the wall closing.
The proposal includes skylights that provide luminosity, a reconstructed panopticon and a historical memory area where some of the existing cells are maintained.
Prima mainly cultural uses, with a workshop area and establishes multipurpose uses, respecting the architecture of this building of the first order.
