Huermur denounces the felling of an olmeda in the Puebla de Soto (25/03/2018)

The conservationist group points out that the elm trees are found in non-urbanizable land with high landscape and environmental values according to the General Plan of Urban Planning.

Neighbors of this hamlet of the Huerta de Murcia communicated to Huermur this indiscriminate felling in one of the few areas of orchard almost intact of the West of the municipality.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) denounces the felling of many protected elms in the hamlet of Puebla de Soto in the middle of Murcia, and next to the ditch of the Dava.

The conservation organization has filed complaints with the Ministry of Environment and the Department of Urban Planning, Environment and Garden of the City of Murcia for the felling of these elms of large size.

They will also file a complaint with the Civil Guard Seprona as they remember that this arboreal species (Ulmus minor) is protected in the Regional Catalog of Wild Protected Flora of the Region of Murcia (Decree 50/2003, BORM No. 131), as species of special interest.

From the association criticize the lack of control of the regional administration on the protection of this species of great value, and especially the City of Murcia that does not put all their effort from the Department of Huerta in that these arboreal sets scattered throughout the garden of Murcia, are really protected against any person who unconsciously or maliciously decides to cut these protected species.

From Huermur indicate that they will start a round of contact with the municipal boards of Huerta districts to inform them of the legislation that covers these species, indicate the places where the specimens are found, and to warn of the duty to collaborate with the Forces and State Security Bodies if they observe any attempt to cut elms in the garden.

Finally, from Huermur send a letter to the mayor in charge of Environment of the City Council, as well as to those responsible for the Ministry of Environment of the Region of Murcia urging that they increase control and vigilance over the olmedas of the huerta of Murcia , in order to prevent these episodes of uncontrolled logging from occurring again.
