Two more people have been arrested: the occupant of tourism as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of cover-up and the omission of the duty to rescue and a third person as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of concealment

After being hit, they moved to a place near the river, in Torreagüera, where the vehicle was set on fire.

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, in collaboration with the Local Police of Murcia, has developed the operation CARFIRE, an investigation aimed at identifying and arresting the driver of the vehicle that, on January 27, took flight after fatally run over a pedestrian, on pk 2 of the MU-300 road (which connects the Murcia districts of Los Ramos and Torreagüera), which has culminated with his arrest as alleged perpetrator of the crimes of reckless murder, omission of the duty of relief and fire in own property.

The occupant of the brother's vehicle of the driver has also been arrested for the alleged responsibility of the crimes of omission of the duty of help and concealment, as well as a Spanish woman, 38 years old and neighbor of Torreagüera, as alleged author of the crime of concealment.

The investigation began on January 27, when the Civil Guard learned of the discovery, in an irrigation ditch in the hamlet of Los Ramos, the lifeless body of a 39-year-old woman, born in Nigeria and of British nationality.

Collaboration with the Local Police of Murcia

Emergency medical services were sent to the place, as well as patrols of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Murcia who, once instructed the corresponding report, determined as the cause of death the victim's abuse while walking on the shoulder, after the impact of a vehicle that invaded the lane destined to the opposite direction.

Simultaneously with this warning, the Benemérita was aware of the burning of a vehicle that had been burned in a place next to the river, in Torreagüera, a scant kilometer from the accident site.

The investigations carried out on this vehicle allowed to find out that the fire had been intentional, so that, once suffocated by firefighting personnel, it was transferred for its deposit and examination.

The ocular inspection of the tourism confirmed the intentionality of the fire, as well as its possible implication in the accident that happened that dawn, when presenting damages in the body compatible with the investigation developed around the traffic accident.

The investigators identified the owner of the vehicle: a male, a resident of Torreagüera, who claimed to have been the object of the car's theft at his home, where he said he had stayed overnight.

The investigations made allowed to verify certain disagreements in his testimony since, supposedly, he had used the tourism to move, next to a brother, to several nocturnal leisure places of the zone.

They burned the vehicle to eliminate evidence of the outrage

This information, together with that obtained through recordings of video-surveillance cameras located in the vicinity of the place, allowed to determine the factual sequence, which located the suspects in time and place coinciding with the one of the outrage and the subsequent fire of the vehicle , the latter with the supposed intention to eliminate vestiges that could relate to the accident and the abandonment of the victim.

As the investigation progressed, the Civil Guard identified a third person from whom it could be ascertained that, allegedly, he had witnessed the outrage and that, apparently, he had arranged with the suspects to hide the information from the authorities.

Recently, the CARFIRE operation has culminated in the arrest of three people: the driver of the Spanish vehicle, 42 years old and neighbor of Torreagüera, as alleged perpetrator of the crimes of reckless homicide, omission of the duty of help and fire in own property;

the brother of the former, 46 years old, who on the day of the events was traveling as a companion in the vehicle as alleged perpetrator of the crimes of omission of the duty of help and concealment, and a 38-year-old woman, Spanish and neighbor of Torreagüera as alleged author of crime of concealment.

Those arrested and the proceedings ordered have been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number 3 of Murcia that has ordered the entry into prison of the driver and precautionary measures on the rest.

The crime of omission of the duty of assistance, when the victim has been by accident caused in an imprudent manner by the omitent, is included in the Penal Code and punished by imprisonment from 6 months to 4 years.
