The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, presented this morning the urban gardens composed of Murcian fruits and vegetables that will adorn more than 20 gardens of the Murcian capital during the next Fiestas of spring.

The event was attended by the president of the Federation of Agrarian Organizations of Murcia (Fecoam), Santiago Martínez, and with the head of the Coordinator of Organizations of Farmers and Cattle Ranchers (Coag), Miguel Padilla, organizations that collaborate in the program Spring Gardens donating fruits and vegetables, thus giving visibility to fresh products from the Region.

José Ballesta explained that "in the Plaza Circular will create a large canvas of nature huertana composed of nearly 2,000 kilos of cut vegetables," as well as varieties of trees more representative of the Murcian garden, flowers and herbs.

You can also see two urban gardens, one in the Plaza Circular with 900 plants of different varieties of lettuce, romanescu and purple broccoli, green and yellow, and another on Calle Basabé with cabbages, lettuce and tomato plants that will spread over a surface of 53m2

The mayor of the capital has also pointed out the importance of agriculture in the productive fabric of Murcia and has highlighted the model of cooperatives in the sector, "a unique system that represents an example of participatory democracy."

For his part, Santiago Martínez, president of Fecoam, thanked the City Council's offer to collaborate one more year with this initiative.

Martinez has highlighted the importance of agriculture in the region, and has highlighted the role of agricultural cooperatives in Murcia, "with more than 22,000 farmers who are part of Fecoam, in a sector where cooperative companies have about 40,000 jobs and from where 62% of the final production of the entire Autonomous Community comes out ".

Finally, Miguel Padilla, Secretary General of Coag in the Region, thanked the visibility that the City Council gives to agricultural products during the days of Spring Festival in the capital.

Padilla has emphasized modernization and technological innovation in irrigation systems in the Murcian fields, practicing sustainable agriculture and maximizing water use.
