The Plenary expresses its opposition to the use of fracking at the proposal of Cambiemos Murcia (22/03/2018)

The Plenary of the City of Murcia has approved today, in its ordinary session, the motion of Change Murcia for the City Council to express its opposition to the use of fracking or hydraulic fracture in the Autonomous Community, for the risks that may pose for public health, the environment and agriculture.

The initiative, which has defended the councilman Sergio Ramos, also raises the adherence of the Consistory to the proposal of the Basin Platform of the Free Fracking Segura to promote a regional pact of municipalities against this technique, as well as to urge the Government of Murcia to prohibit the use of fracking or any similar technique used for the investigation and future exploitation of unconventional hydrocarbon deposits.

Citizens has presented an alternative that has been rejected, so that the approved finally has been the original motion of the municipal training.

On the other hand, with regard to the motion for the restitution of the Institute for Women, councilor Margarita Guerrero, the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, has used the vote of quality to break the tie originated after the debate, with the support of the proponent group, Now Murcia, PSOE and the non-attached councilor, Javier Trigueros;

the abstention of Citizens and the rejection of the PP.

The proposal of Cambiemos Murcia, which has not gone ahead by decision of the councilor, proposed that the City Council required the regional government to comply with the agreements approved at the Regional Assembly in November 2015, at the request of the parliamentary group of Podemos and by majority, for the recovery of the Institute for Women in the Region of Murcia.

Yes, the Guerrero motion has come forward, asking the City Council to show its solidarity with Helena Maleno and all the activists who defend Human Rights, and reject the criminalization to which the NGOs working at the borders are subjected.

Councilor Nacho Tornel's motion has also been approved to highlight the work of the school counselors who represent the municipal boards, who have demanded on many occasions a greater interaction with the local Administration, specifically with the Department of Education, to attend the needs of the municipal schools that are municipal property.

In addition, Tornel has defended a motion that has been unanimously approved by the Corporation to increase the green area around the Morales Meseguer hospital, to the detriment of the blue, much more expensive, and for the Autonomous Community and the City Council to include in its mobility plans this environment as a center of interest in order to improve public transport services.

Regarding the municipal boards, the Plenary session has given the green light - with the votes in favor of PSOE, Cs, Ahora Murcia and Cambiemos Murcia;

the abstention of Trigueros and the rejection of PP- to the initiative of the mayor Sergio Ramos for the Department of Economy to extend the deadline for registration of invoices for the year 2018 and following years, so as to include the cultural activities of Christmas corresponding to chapter II.

However, it has not been approved - when an alternative presented by the PP went ahead - which requested the Governing Board to make a new appointment of the members of the Contracting Committee in which there is no elected office of the Corporation and establish a system so that all municipal groups receive the calls and reports and can attend as guests.
