The Popular Municipal Group will propose to the Plenary that Murcia be a "Cero City" in support of the Roma community (21/03/2018)

Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, has presented this morning the motion that will take tomorrow to the municipal plenary session in order that Murcia is a zero city in support of the Roma community with "zero prejudice, zero discrimination, a city in which nobody part with disadvantage ".

"The great discrimination suffered by the Roma community means that for many of its members there is no equality of opportunities, and this group starts with disadvantages in many facets of their lives, such as studying, finding a job or renting an apartment," he said. mayor.

According to Ruiz, "it is the obligation of institutions to promote a society in which no person has to travel the path of inequality, and in which everyone has the same opportunities."

That is why, on the occasion of the celebration on April 8, the International Day of the Gypsy People, the Popular Municipal Group proposes that the City of Murcia join the national campaign launched by the Fundación Secretariado Gitano for sensitize society about the importance of building 'Zero City': zero prejudices, zero discrimination;

a city in which nobody part with disadvantage.

"From the Popular Group we believe in the right of all people not to be discriminated against and we defend the principle of equality, which is the backbone of all our work, and understanding that the principles established to build a Zero City correspond to the political will and commitment acquired by the City of Murcia with its citizenship, the Popular Group will propose for approval in plenary, adherence to the Decalogue for a zero city, "said the councilor.

This decalogue includes the following points:

1. A Zero City is one where nobody is disadvantaged because everyone has the same opportunities, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, nationality or religion.

2. The laws of a Zero City protect citizens and guarantee the equality of all people.

3. Their institutions are inclusive and work so that all people have the same rights and obligations.

4. Their rulers are sensitive to injustice, and their policies foster equality.

5. In a Zero City the media offer a fair image of all citizens and social networks reject hate speech.

6. The companies of a Ciudad Cero value their workers for their skills and training, and not for their ethnicity, gender or personal characteristics.

7. Their schools and educational centers are enriched with diversity and foster respect among all students.

8. In a Zero City housing is a right, and prejudices do not prevent any citizen from accessing it.

9. In the shops and entertainment venues of a Cero City, everyone is welcome, and no one is treated with humiliation, suspicion or rejection.

10. The citizens of a Cero City are proud of their diversity and are respectful of others, because these values ​​contribute to their well-being and happiness.
