The University of Murcia has invested this Tuesday, March 20, businessman Tomás Fuertes, president of Grupo Fuertes, Doctor Honoris Causa in a ceremony held in the auditorium of the Faculty of Economics and Business, which has been filled with entrepreneurs, people from all walks of life, professors and students of the University who wanted to witness the act of their entry into the honor roll of the institution.
During his acceptance speech, Fuertes has made a tour of some of the principles and values ​​that have pushed him throughout his career and that have contributed to the small business that his parents ran in the thirties has become little more than eighty years in the second group in the meat sector in Spain, with presence in more than eighty countries and generating 6,400 direct and 32,000 indirect jobs.
"The real triumph in life is to discover the values ​​you have and take advantage of them", Fuertes has defended, who has assured that he was lucky enough to discover that his vocation was to be an entrepreneur, to build, and that is what that has made him enjoy his activity: "I do not work, I have fun".
Fuertes, who has received recognition also on behalf of his brothers, has wanted to send a message to young students.
He assured them "that the real race begins when they leave the university" and asked them not to be discouraged by a future that may seem uncertain: "We do not have to worry about the future, we have to take care of ourselves".
The brand-new Honoris Causa has stressed that in the globalized world "people who know how to apply knowledge are needed" and that will be the role of the young people who are now in the universities.
They wanted to convey that they are guided by principles such as perseverance, effort and the desire to excel.
"You have to give laziness a shot," he said, convinced that "if you know and want, you will find the means to achieve what you want, with perseverance."
Tomás Fuertes has assured that he feels excited to receive the highest distinction from the University of Murcia;
"the university of my land" and has called on University and companies to continue collaborating closely to continue contributing to regional growth.
Before the intervention of the president of the Fuertes Group, whose main company is ElPozo Alimentación, Professors Gaspar Ros and Juan Monreal had read an extensive laudation detailing all the reasons why the honoree deserves recognition.
Among them, his close work of collaboration and patronage in research and innovation projects of the University of Murcia and his contribution to the regional business sector.
The rector of the University of Murcia, José Orihuela, also wanted to thank Tomás Fuertes for his contribution to the institution.
Orihuela, who presided over his last act of investiture of a Doctor Honoris Causa, wanted to take the opportunity to congratulate the rector-elect, José Luján, who was also at the presidential table.
The ceremony was closed by the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, who remarked that the appointment of Tomás Fuertes as Honoris Causa "is of all justice towards a great worker who bears the name of the Region for more than 80 countries."
The president is convinced that his firmness and determination is a great testimony for the students of the University and future entrepreneurs.
