Change Murcia asks that the Alquibla ditch be respected in the works of the Green Path (13/03/2018)

Cambiemos Murcia will present motions in Algezares, Santo Ángel and La Alberca so that the City Council will urgently open the Green Path, through which the Alquibla irrigation channel runs and which runs between these districts, now closed for works.

In 2004, the City Council of Murcia decided to transform the Alquibla irrigation canal into a green path after it had been piped, in order to convert it, according to an informative note from the Consistory, into "a pedestrian promenade with a bicycle path, trees, benches and public lighting".

Let's change Murcia presented a motion in 2015 since to date no work had been carried out in that area, which was approved by the municipal Plenary.

In this initiative, the training requested, among other issues, a plan to adapt the path to convert it into the promised walk and to prevent the movement of vehicles through this green space to avoid damage to the infrastructure of the canal that runs through the subsoil.

However, at present, a part of the land settled on the ditch are closed and there are large vehicles for the construction of the works, which means the failure to comply with the motion warning of the danger of circulation for the ditch.

In addition, in another affected area debris is being deposited without the City Council participating, as requested by the initiative approved by the Corporation, in the cleaning, maintenance and enhancement of the Green Path.

The proposal of Cambiemos Murcia is to remain closed the space necessary to carry out the works, but to open and condition, with respect to the natural heritage, the boundaries of the Path, so that it can be enjoyed by the neighbors.

The members of the municipal formation Isabel Muñoz, Paco Serrano and Álvaro de Verástegui have denounced the "inaction" of the government team in regard to the conservation and enhancement of the Huerta of the southern area of Murcia.

"The PP has focused its efforts on profitability to green spaces betting on the brick and destroying a natural heritage, of all and all, which will be unrecoverable," they lamented, after remembering that there is a great need for spaces for walks and places of recreation demanded by the associations of neighbors of the zone and that is evident in the human affluence of walkers in the lane-bike of the Costera South.
