Workers cleaning Ferrovial schools have denounced today in a press conference the "continuous breaches" of the working conditions included in the contract that the company has with the City Council since July 2016.

The workers have explained that Ferrovial, which took control of three of the six lots awarded, has been sanctioned on two occasions for failing to comply with the minimum established in terms of staff hours and the cleaning of the educational centers.

Among the problems they suffer, employees have highlighted the reduction of hours of work with respect to what is required in the specifications and the money that the City Council pays to the company, pressures, dismissals and coercions, said Conchi Martínez, employee, and Elena Ortíz, from ATRM.

On the other hand, María López, who has been dedicated for 24 years to cleaning schools, has indicated that the staff is suffering from a situation of overwhelm that is new in her case, because in her entire working life she is only now facing something like that.

In fact, the workers have been forced to form a works council now.

This situation has resulted from "problems of organization of the company, which does not distribute work hours well," said Lopez, whose contract is 4 hours a day.

Ferrovial is responsible for the cleaning of 44 schools, has 94 employees on the payroll, of whom 8 or 9 are men (all working full time) and in June the contract with the City Council ends.

For this reason, the workers have asked that in the new specifications a quality service be ensured, in which both the working conditions and the cleaning of the schools are respected.

Isabel Muñoz, representative of the Municipal Board of Algezares in the School Council of the community of the district, has explained that from the direction of the centers writings of support to the workers are being issued.

"The cleaning of schools is an extremely sensitive service because the recipients are children," said Muñoz.
