Community, Ministry and City Council agree to act jointly in the Castle of Monteagudo and its surroundings (09/03/2018)

Culture has 200,000 euros to complete the archaeological prospecting of the Castle of Larache, its consolidation and architectural restoration and enhancement

The Autonomous Community, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and the City of Murcia agreed this week to act together in the Castle of Monteagudo and its surroundings.

Thus, during this year emergency actions will be carried out according to the evaluations of the technical personnel on the state of this strength.

Specifically, at the meeting held by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Javier Celdrán, the General Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry, Luis Lafuente, and the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the draft of the Master Plan carried out by the central Government through the Cultural Heritage Institute of Spain and a joint action was agreed that includes carrying out emergency works during this year;

the presentation after Easter of the revised Master Plan;

as well as the signing of a protocol of action between the three administrations.

In this way, the three administrations involved in the recovery of the fortress and all its surroundings will establish a common action agenda guided by the Master Plan that was evaluated at the meeting and which marks the road map for the complete recovery of both the Castle of Monteagudo, like those of Larache and El Castillejo.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, said that "it is a project of great magnitude for its heritage and cultural importance in which we involve the three administrations." Without doubt, its recovery and putting into use will also mean an important economic, social and tourist impact ".

In this sense, the General Director of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry communicated the beginning of the procedures to start the investments related to emergency works according to technical criteria and following the planning that will be defined in the final version of the Master Plan .

On the part of the Community, the budget of 200,000 euros was informed for the Castle of Larache, of regional ownership.

The action that is already being planned by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets consists in the culmination of the archaeological prospecting of the property.

In addition to this research activity, consolidation and architectural restoration works will be carried out during this year, this strength being the one with the best level of conservation.

These works will complete the actions previously carried out.

In particular, in 2004 the basic and execution project related to the repair and preservation of the fortress was carried out;

and in 2007 and 2008, the second phase was carried out, which included archaeological supervision and surveys to determine the state of conservation and the archaeological sequence.

Finally, the Mayor of Murcia presented the work that is being done by the City Council to complete the process of acquiring El Castillejo for its rehabilitation and value as part of the medieval set.
