The City Council responds to the request of the residents of Santa María de Gracia and renews the Ramón Gaya garden (08/03/2018)

The Department of Modernization of the Administration has installed a multi-sport court with artificial grass of 80m2 and improved shadow spaces.

In his visit to the neighborhood, José Ballesta maintains a participatory meeting with neighbors from different associations such as the Women's Center, the Senior Center, the Peña Huertana Palmera-Melón, the Neighborhood Association or Cáritas.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for the Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, visited the Ramón Gaya Garden this afternoon, located in the neighborhood of Santa María de Gracia, which has been completely renovated.

In response to the request made by the neighbors, new cobbled accesses have been built, eliminating architectural barriers so that it is a place open to all and various spaces have been landscaped, creating a family environment and leisure in the open air.

"Besides," explained the mayor, "a track has been created with goals and baskets, also encouraging sports among the youngest in this neighborhood, which has 13,700 inhabitants."

It is a fenced sports space, almost 80 square meters, and artificial turf surface to encourage healthy activities.

This green area now has a landscaped corridor with meadow and shrubby plants that separates the existing stone walls, thus achieving greater integration and improved drainage of rainwater.

Also, responding to neighborhood requests, the metal pergola has been replaced by placing microperforated fabrics that provide shade and reduce the impact of the sun.

The works have involved an investment of 30,000 euros.

Participatory meeting with neighborhood associations

During his visit, José Ballesta held a participatory meeting with residents of different associations and collectives of Santa María de Gracia, such as the Women's Center, the Senior Center, the Peña Huertana Palmera-Melón, the Association of Neighbors and Cáritas;

collectives that transferred to the mayor their proposals and ideas for improvement for the neighborhood.
