The Physics Olympiad of the Region of Murcia breaks the record of participation in its edition with more girls enrolled (07/03/2018)

On Thursday, March 8, at 4:00 pm, the regional phase of the Spanish Physics Olympiad will take place in the North Aulario (Espinardo Campus), in which high school students will examine their knowledge of Physics.

So far, there are about a hundred students enrolled, the largest number of participants in recent years.

Of them, 25% are girls, which also means a record of participation.

The Physics Olympiad is an annual competition for high school students that aims to promote the teaching of this science in the Region, constitute a meeting point between students and teachers and select the contestants who represent Murcia in the Spanish Olympiad.

The test consists in the resolution of physics problems contextualized in real life situations such as, for example, the study of the movement of satellites and planets, the properties of sound or the operation of electric motors.

The contestants have to demonstrate the knowledge of Physics learned in secondary education and test both their analytical and analytical capacity as well as their creativity.

The winners will compete, along with other students selected in the local stages of the rest of the country, from April 13 to 16 at the XXIX Spanish Physics Olympiad held this year in Valladolid.

This action is organized by the Local Committee of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics and financed by the Seneca Foundation Regional Agency of Science and Technology, through the call for "Aid to the organization of Scientific Olympics of the Region of Murcia" and account with the collaboration of the Faculty of Chemistry of the UMU.
