More than 7.5 kilometers of bicycle lanes will cross the urban center to connect the Circular Square with the Segura River (02/03/2018)

The Governing Board has approved the projects and the tender of the itineraries that will link from the Round to the Fica and to Manterola, with a branch from Díez de Revenga to Avenida de los Pinos.

Antonio Navarro says that "our commitment to sustainable mobility is unquestionable if we want to live in a friendly Murcia, with quality of life and respectful of the environment."

The councilman of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Kitchen garden, Antonio Navarro, today explained the agreement adopted by the Governing Board to expand the availability of bike lanes in Murcia.

"There is no doubt that for the bicycle to take center stage in urban mobility it is necessary that we provide users with safe spaces to travel, and that step we have taken today," he said.

The approved itineraries total 7.5 kilometers, mostly segregated, and a total investment of 1.2 million euros, and their execution will take the necessary road infrastructures to the city center.

Specifically, two projects have received the green light: the bike lane from Plaza Circular to FICA, with connections to Juan Carlos I avenues, Juan de Borbón and Abenarabi;

and the one that will run from Pasarela Manterola to Plaza Circular and from Plaza Díez de Revenga to Avenida de los Pinos.

The first of them, with a length of 3,775 meters, has a deadline of 6 months and a budget of 888,592 euros.

It runs along a segregated route and will have connections with the existing bicycle lanes in Juan Carlos I avenue, Juan de Borbón, left mote of the Seguras River, Avenida de los Pinos and interior of the Plaza Circular.

The bike lane from Pasarela Manterola to Plaza Circular and from Plaza Díez de Revenga to Avenida de los Pinos, will have a total length of 3,767 meters, of which 1,989 meters are segregated and the remaining 1,778 are shared.

The expected execution period will be 5 months and the budget amounts to 322,096 euros.

It will also have connections with other existing bicycle lanes on Avenida Juan Carlos I, left side of the Segura River, Avenida de los Pinos and inside the Plaza Circular.

Both projects, designed to allow safe, useful and accessible travel, are part of the 2017-2019 Bicycle Action Plan.

With them, continuity is provided to the existing bike lanes, creating an interconnected mesh that gives fluidity to cycling trips, joining the old sections with the new ones, to articulate an authentic network of bicycle paths that allow to circulate through the urban area. ', stressed Antonio Navarro.

Its implementation is a 'step forward in the development of our city model - added the head of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Garden - which opts to give more space to pedestrian and bicycle, prioritizing sustainable mobility as a means of usual transport '.

In addition, the Governing Board has given its approval to two other files related to the promotion of the use of bicycles.

Thus, on the one hand, the tender for the supply and installation of 406 bicycle stands was approved, with a budget of 46,690 euros.

It has also approved the specifications for contracting maintenance and maintenance of bike lanes, with a maximum price of 95,833 euros and a period of one year.

The company that is ultimately awarded the contract must deal with the repair of the damages that may occur in the cycling infrastructures, including the maintenance, maintenance, reform, repair, replacement or replacement that are necessary to maintain and preserve the pavements in perfect condition. and signage of the bike lanes.

The contract includes the placement or repair of fences, poles, pivots, forks, soundtracks or any defense element to prevent the invasion of vehicles, as well as vertical and horizontal signaling, replacement of traffic lights, cleaning and, in general, the work necessary to ensure the safety and fluidity of the movement of bicycles along their lanes.
