The City of Murcia distinguishes the first woman Professor at the University of Murcia with the award 8 March (02/03/2018)

The Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, presented this morning the program activities on the occasion of March 8, International Women's Day.

She has been accompanied by the Councilors of Health and Sports, Felipe Coello, and Rebeca Pérez, Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services.

Under the theme chosen this year, "A necessary perspective to achieve equality", we want to emphasize the need to achieve a fuller, fairer and more developed society, through the only way of equality.

For this, from today and until March 15, a set of protest activities will be programmed with the participation of numerous Centers, associations and entities.

"We continue to call for the elimination of any discrimination based on gender, supporting the balanced presence of women and men in all areas of life and demanding co-responsibility and personal, work and social conciliation," said Conchita Ruiz.

For all of this, on Thursday, March 8 at 12:00 noon, International Women's Day, the institutional act will take place in the Plenary Hall.

There, the protest manifesto will be read and the prizes and awards of 2018 will be handed out. This year they will be awarded to Francisca Moya del Baño, winner of 'Murcia in Equality', the first female professor at the University of Murcia.

Francisca Moya del Baño was born in Murcia 76 years ago and graduated in Philosophy and Letters from the University of Murcia in June 1965, obtaining a doctorate in 1968. She has spent time at the Universities of Heidelberg, Rome and the National Library of Napoli and made about 150 publications.

He obtained the Award for the Best Bachelor's Degree in Classical Theme granted by the Spanish Society of Classical Studies, Madrid 1966 and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award.

First Director of the Classroom for the Elderly of the University of Murcia (1997-2000), she has also held numerous positions of responsibility in that institution.

Its pioneering character is summarized in being the first Professor of the Murcia University, first Director of the Department, the first woman to deliver the Opening Address of the Course at the University, the first General Secretary of the Educational Promotion Courses, the first woman who belonged to the Government Board, as representative of the Professors, the first one that launched and directed a Scientific Journal in this University or first director of the Seniors' Classroom.
