The UMU delivers the 2017 Awards for Knowledge Transfer (01/03/2018)

The University of Murcia delivered this morning the 2017 Awards for Knowledge Transfer at the University of Murcia, which recognize the work of researchers at the University to bring innovation and knowledge to companies and society in general.

Twelve researchers have received in this second call the prizes in an act that has taken place in the Convalescence, headquarters of the Rectorate, which has been attended by the rector, José Orihuela;

the president of the Social Council, José Antonio Campillo;

the director of the Séneca Foundation, Antonio González;

the vice-rector of Transfer, Entrepreneurship and Employment, Francisca Tomás;

and the director of the Transfer Office, Antonio Montes.

Francisca Tomás has stressed "the great pride" for the University to have researchers working to "return to society the investment that society makes with us."

Both she and Rector Orihuela have highlighted the fact that the transfer of knowledge is not limited only to technical or scientific areas, but that all areas generate knowledge that must be transmitted.

The rector has highlighted the role that the transfer has as an economic stimulator and generator of jobs;

"It is the knowledge economy", he pointed out.

In a similar line, both José Antonio Campillo and Antonio González have expressed themselves.

Both have stressed the importance for society that this knowledge that is born of researchers reaches its destination.

"The cycle of knowledge does not end until it is transferred," Gonzalez remarked.

The winners have stood out for their activity signing contracts with companies, creating patents or other tasks aimed at getting their research to society.

The winners in Modality 1, who will receive a prize of 3,000 euros, are:

HEALTH

-Mariano Valdés Chávarri

-José María Moraleda Jiménez

Modality 2, aimed at researchers who for the first time have collaborated in Transfer and Knowledge activities, is endowed with 2,500 euros each for the acquisition of scientific-technological equipment of small cost for the strengthening of the research groups.

The awards are for: Juan Ramón Gimeno Blanes and María del Mar Grandio Pérez.
