The PSOE proposes the date of April 14 to celebrate "the long-delayed tribute" to Murcia deportees to Nazi camps (01/03/2018)

The Municipal Socialist Group proposes that the City of Murcia undertakes the celebration of the tribute, "so long delayed", Murcia deportees to the Nazi concentration camps and raises that could be next April 14, day in which the II Republic, in 1931, since precisely the deportees were republicans and for that reason they were repressed.

Councilor Begoña García Retegui recalls that on June 29, 2017, the Plenary made an institutional declaration in which it committed to the placement of a monolith in a street or public square in memory of the victims, in addition to an express acknowledgment.

"We believe that eight months is more than enough time for our City Council to pay tribute to these Murcians, who suffered deportation and repression eighty years ago.It is neither fair nor rational nor human to prolong oblivion".

In addition, Garcia Retegui affirms that other town halls are celebrating tributes and "Murcia should follow the example and assume as soon as possible this pending issue of our history".

The councilor points out, as she stated at the June plenary session, that Mauthausen was known as the Spanish camp because in its precinct there remained approximately 7,500 of the 10,000 Spaniards who were deported to the extermination camps between 1940 and 1945. Of them , 85 belonged at the time to Murcia, of which 53 were killed.
