The City Council acquires a place for the elderly of San Miguel to gain space for their social center (01/03/2018)

The Mayor attended this morning to the act of signing the deed of sale of a low of 350 square meters to accommodate the many activities organized by the thousand partners.

José Ballesta stressed the importance of ending the problem of space that the center endured, 'place of meeting and coexistence in the neighborhood' which, since its establishment in 2001, had not stopped increasing the number of associates, who 'from now they will be able to realize their claim to have greater breadth '.

The elderly of San Miguel will enjoy adequate facilities and according to their needs thanks to the expansion of the center that has led to the City of Murcia.

The Mayor, José Ballesta, attended this morning to the act of signing the deed of acquisition of an annex premises of 350 meters, whose cost amounts to 317,644 euros.

The facilities are located in the Vinader and Conde de Roche streets.

891 people are members of the association, which since its inception in 2001 has been increasing the number of members.

The expansion that is now formalized, something much in demand by its Board of Directors, will significantly increase the number of members and partners, as well as participation in the various activities that are developed to promote active aging, thus being able to expand them and put in progress new projects.

"This center is a benchmark for the elderly in the neighborhood of San Miguel," explained the Mayor, "and has become a meeting place, coexistence and space for the development of cultural, recreational and leisure activities, which is why the acquisition of the new premises acquires a greater relevance ".

Ballesta has been accompanied on his visit to the center by the councilors of Education, Heritage and Relations with Universities, Rafael Gomez, the Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, and the president of the center for older people, Marilina Carrascosa.

The current location had been manifestly small, especially considering the volume of activities and services that are developed.

This program of activities includes courses gerontogimnasia, theater and tai chi, financed and managed by the Department of Social Rights.

It also has a group of choral and rondalla and a theater group that accumulates a wide repertoire and numerous stagings.

In addition, members have the possibility to participate in English classes taught by a member of the center, as well as a reading club, organized with the collaboration of a volunteer of the ACDOMUR association.

Annually they celebrate a Cultural Week with conferences, musical, choral and rondalla performances and organize various cultural trips.

In order to contribute and facilitate the development of activities that promote active and healthy aging, the Department of Social Rights collaborates with a grant of € 6,500.
