HUERMUR denounces before Culture the "UNSTABLE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS" state of Castillo de Monteagudo that recognizes the Master Plan (01/03/2018)

The association demands the application of precautionary and urgent measures before the "risk of collapse" of half of the walls of the castle, as well as by the numerous detected amount of walls with "risk of ruin, collapse or detachment", according to the Plan.

HUERMUR has requested the Minister of Culture and the Director General of Bienes Cultures to proceed to decree the necessary measures so that the general degradation of the upper and lower enclosures of the fortress does not continue.

The complaint of the association has been registered on Tuesday in the Autonomous Community, provided numerous documents and remembering the various requirements and writings submitted to date

The conservation organization describes as "propagandist" the attitude of the City Council, which uses the Castle to promote the Week of the Huerta while refusing to receive it and not restore it, while it is sinking and deteriorating.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia, HUERMUR, after studying the more than 450 pages contained in the Master Plan of the Castle of Monteagudo, has registered a complaint with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Environment, as well as before the General Directorate of Cultural Assets, highlighting the need for urgent actions in the face of the structural situation of the castle highlighted in the master plan.

For HUERMUR, it is not possible to delay the precautionary actions for the conservation of the walls and enclosures of the castle before the documented fact of the situation of the castle, which the plan defines as "UNSTABLE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS" (in capital letters in the Plan itself), including for people who may be in the vicinity of the castle, without even accessing it.

The entity has registered the complaint this past Tuesday before the Autonomous Community, providing numerous documentation and information collected in recent months, as well as remembering and listing the writings presented so far before the different administrations involved in the conservation and maintenance of Monteagudo Castle .

From the conservationist association consider very serious that they are not taking measures from the Ministry of Finance, recognized owner of the cultural property, or from the Ministry of Culture, competent administration in monitoring and conservation of heritage, and that must ensure that each owner meets the Law of Patrimony and all its dispositions, since HUERMUR remembers that a denunciation was presented before the CARM more than a year and a half ago, communicating the bad state of the castle, and no answer has been obtained.

Before the detailed analysis of the situation of the castle and each of its elements, contained in the plan, and which is in the power of both the state (owner) and regional (heritage) authorities, for HUERMUR "there is no other way that immediately begin the urgent conservation measures, to avoid new landslides, falls of materials and ruin of walls and constructions ", and that a situation of non-return is reached with the consequent exponential increase of the budget necessary for the restoration.

The association demands that precautionary measures be ordered under the Cultural Heritage Law, to prevent further damage to the areas detected with "risk of ruin, collapse or detachment", which are numerous in the upper and lower enclosures of Monteagudo Castle.

On the other hand the Association HUERMUR has criticized that the City of Murcia used as an image in the posters of the Week of the Huerta a photograph of the Castle of Monteagudo, at the same time that repeatedly refuses to receive this monument, despite the fact that processed a file for it with the Government of Spain.

For this association, "it is a propaganda attitude, the City Council does not show real actions to recover or preserve this emblematic monument of the Huerta de Murcia, which agonizes before the inaction of all the administrations involved."
