The Plenary expresses its 'unconditional and unequivocal support' to taxi drivers in Murcia to provide 'exclusive' service at the airport (22/02/2018)

The initiative that has approved the Plenary reminds that it is 'to exercise the same rights and obligations that are regulated in the other cities in whose municipal terms the airports are located'

The Municipal Corporation of Murcia has expressed its' unconditional and unequivocal support 'to taxi drivers in the city in the provision of public service so that' exclusively, the stop established at the airport can only be operated with holders of licenses authorized by the Town hall'.

The motion that includes this proposal and has approved the Plenary today has had the support of the municipal groups of PP, PSOE and Cs, to which Murcia has now joined, and the abstention of Cambiemos.

The agreement, which will be transferred to the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure, recalls that it is 'exercising the same rights and obligations that are regulated in the rest of the cities in which the airports are located'.

The initiative is proposed after the meeting held by the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, along with the councilor for Finance and Contracting, Eduardo Martínez-Oliva, with the president of the Radio Taxi cooperative, Sergio Navarro, and a group of taxi drivers from Murcia, last day 5. In the same, Ballesta transferred his support and promised to intercede for the interests of Murcia professionals because the law protects them and because the general interest so legitimizes.

In the municipality there are currently 290 licenses to provide taxi service in the municipality.

The text of the statement that will be presented to the Plenary next week states that 'before the imminent opening of the International Airport of the Region of Murcia, these professionals can provide a service that ensures efficiency and sustainability by those who can best offer it, without this supposes privilege or distinction with respect to the taxi drivers of other municipalities. '

This is so because, as the agreement recalls, the anticipated exceptions to the provision of this service when it has been previously agreed upon, offer the option of collaborating, complying with the conditions and guarantees that for these assumptions are established.
