Change Murcia asks Education to listen to the School Councils (21/01/2018)

Through a motion that will take to the Plenary next Thursday, Cambiemos Murcia has asked the Department of Education to fulfill its functions and convene bi-monthly meetings with school counselors of public schools in the municipality.

The municipal training has decided to present this petition to the complaints of many school counselors who demand greater interaction with the local administration to meet the needs of the municipal schools that are municipal property.

The councilor who will defend the initiative, Nacho Tornel, explained that the function of these Councils, in which the boards are represented by a member acting as a councilor, that is, on behalf of the City Council, is to serve as a link between the neighborhoods and pedanías and the Consistory in what refers to the conservation and maintenance of educational centers.

However, the Councils "can not develop their work with guarantees" because "they do not have the support" of the aforementioned Council, which even disseminates educational campaigns or works of the City or the Autonomous Community without having the opinion of these bodies.

"This produces a kind of dead link that prevents the different realities of the centers from reaching the Consistory in terms of their functions as representatives of the Administration, or coordinate the actions of this for efficient management," Tornel said.

The most logical solution according to Change Murcia, and so will move this Thursday, is that the mayor of Education convene meetings every two months and that even a representative of the different School Councils is incorporated into the Municipal School Council to facilitate direct coordination.
