The Municipal Board of Cabezo de Torres and the associations Columbares and Murcia on Bike pose an intense day of activities for the whole family for World Bicycle Day, April 19 (12/04/2017)

Theater, storytelling, repair and maintenance of bicycles and a bike route to promote the use of the bicycle as a means of transport, draw the attention of neighbors on the rights of cyclists and highlight the benefits of cycling for health and the environment

World Bicycle Day is celebrated around the world every 19th of April in order to promote the use of this means of transport, draw attention to the rights of cyclists and highlight its benefits for health and sustainable mobility .

Mobility has become one of the great challenges for the cities of the future, due to the noise and pollution problems generated by the use of the private vehicle and the benefits that for the quality of life and health represents a greater use of means Alternative transportation such as cycling or walking.

According to the World Health Organization, it is estimated that people who bicycle 100 minutes or more a week reduce their chances of dying by 10%.

In this context, changing the city model is not only desirable but possible, as some Spanish cities such as Seville, Vitoria and Pontevedra have shown, and cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen have been doing for decades, to mention just a few.

Taking advantage of a day as symbolic as the World Bicycle Day, the Municipal Board of Cabezo de Torres proposes a series of playful-educational activities to promote reflection on the model of mobility dominated by the car and start a process of change of the / Residents of Cabezo de Torres towards a sustainable bicycle transport, which will not only affect individual benefits but also improve the rest of the citizens of the hamlet.

To this end, the Municipal Board has the collaboration of the Columbares Association and the Murcia Association in Bike, with a long history and experience in organizing environmental education activities around cycling.

The activities, aimed at the public of all ages, will start at 12:00 hours with the play 3, 2, 1 Odyssey by bicycle, in which two characters - represented by Natalia Martinez and Marta Ochando - wake up in 3015 After a long period of hibernation, they find among the remains of the past a two-wheeled vehicle that will make them reflect on the benefits of the bicycle.

In the afternoon, the day will continue at 16:00 hours with the storyteller En Cabezo de Torres, bicis a pile, by Isabel de la Iglesia, in which the little ones will come into contact with the world of the bicycle through the game .

At 5:00 p.m., all neighbors who wish to do so will be able to approach the bike repair and maintenance workshop to set up their bikes and learn to make small arrangements at home.

As a final climax to this great day, at 18:30 hours will be a guided bike route around the area of ​​Cabezo de Torres, aimed at the public of all ages.

The play, storytelling and workshop will take place in the Garden of the Constitution of Cabezo de Torres, place from which will also start the route by bicycle.
