A helicopter, drones for difficult access areas, localized fumigations, displacements to the floodplains and control of the environment of the river and the Salada Boquera de Tabala and bats that will prevent the spread of the tiger mosquito

The Department of Sports and Health, led by Felipe Coello, presented this morning the campaign 'Against the tiger mosquito we fight all' this year is ahead a month by the numerous rains of winter.

The Municipal Health Service informs citizens about this problem and invites them to collaborate to eradicate the pest of this type of mosquito, called 'Aedes Albopictus', since most of the outbreaks are on private property.

This year will use a helicopter that will fly over the whole municipality for the identification and mapping of foci, drones to reach areas difficult to access, in addition to performing localized fumigations and displacements.

In addition, bats will be used to ward off these insects, so nesting boxes will be installed for these bats since they can consume up to 1,000 mosquitoes in one night, becoming great collaborators to control this pest.

The treatment designed focuses on the location and identification of possible foci and avoids massive fumigations as they are harmful to human health, due to the accumulation of insecticides, and which, at the same time, could generate resistance to the insect.

Therefore, these actions allow to combat it in a much more effective way and to act against the localized larvae, since the tiger mosquito grows in small and isolated spaces.

In addition, an exhaustive control of the environment of the river and the rambles or stagnant water areas such as Saladar Boquera de Tabala will be carried out.

The importance of citizen collaboration

With this campaign, framed within the program of control against insects in force throughout the year, it aims to raise awareness of the residents of the municipality on the importance of alerting the Veterinary Service and Zoonoses before the appearance of a focus, both in person and in Through the telephone number 968 24 70 62 and the email veteraria.sanidad@ayto-murcia.es.

To avoid its spread, a wide campaign has been created for all citizens, distributing information in travel agencies, associations, libraries, educational centers, pedanias, professional schools such as doctors or pharmacists, etc.

In addition, brochures will be given and informative talks will be given for mayors of the districts, custodians of schools or administrators of estates, since they are in these areas of work where there is greater risk.

Some tips to combat this problem are to avoid containers that can accumulate water, such as buckets or drums, screen water tanks, maintain chlorine levels in swimming pools and ponds, regularly clean terrace and roof gutters and try to avoid Flooding with irrigation.

To avoid mosquito bites, it is recommended to use repellents, especially on the legs, to take care of our body hygiene, to put mosquito nets on the windows and to use electrical devices against insects.
