San Esteban Master Plan advances at a good pace (10/04/2017)

The Councilor for Development, Roque Ortiz, held a meeting with representatives of the San Esteban TPP responsible for drafting the Master Plan of San Esteban, municipal technicians, the municipal archaeologist, and representatives of the General Directorate of Cultural Property.

Ortiz explained that "the Master Plan is progressing well and we work in a coordinated way to continue developing these works.

Thus, during the meeting the different elements that make up the inventory and archaeological catalog have been revealed, the proposals for buildings have been studied, progress has been made in the methodology and in the different authorizations necessary to undertake the work and Began to establish a schedule and schedule.

The drafting of the Master Plan is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

These drafting actions of the Master Plan are combined with the works of pedestrian conditioning in the area of ​​San Esteban and renovation of the protection of the site, which are already being developed. In this way, the members of the UTE responsible for drafting the Plan are in continuous coordination with the companies awarded these projects.

Ortiz explained that "in addition, there have already been different encounters with the neighbors of the area where they have been able to offer their views on the different jobs that will be developed."

The aim is to analyze and propose viable solutions for the recovery of the space for public use of the garden of San Esteban while at the same time the archaeological zone is put in value.

These two axes will be achieved by striving for an adequate integration of the space to be treated with the Palacio de San Esteban and the adjacent church and with the urban environment, while at the same time pursuing these objectives with the maximum degree of participation and transparency.

The master plan will have a multidisciplinary content and will address actions of social and neighborhood integration, tourism promotion, cultural, trade, leisure, furniture and urban enjoyment, areas of possible pedestrianization, recovery and environmental regeneration, cleaning and waste collection.

Although the basic area of ​​action will include the archaeological site, the church and the palace of San Esteban, the effective area will be defined by the plan itself, which will make proposals on the immediate and influential urban environment.

The document will establish eight lines of action that enhance research and archaeological conservation, together with the public and citizen use of the environment, all of this, according to the parameters of rigor and excellence required, in an urban environment of such centrality and importance, as corresponds to A project that is called to be one of the most important to be developed in Murcia in the coming years.
