Family respite is a support service for families with dependent dependents who require the continued care of a person as the primary caregiver.

With the fundamental objective of expanding the possibility of accessing the family respite service by the citizens, the Government Board today initiated the procedure to approve a regulatory ordinance, so that potential beneficiaries can request this benefit throughout All the year, without adhering to a previous term, as it happened until now.

The Respite to Families with Persons with Functional Dependence service consists of providing support to the family that usually cares for a dependent person, who suffers an overload due to both the amount of work that the dependent family's care entails and the level of Emotional stress it involves, replacing it in the care it provides so that the family or primary caregiver can be relieved.

At the moment there are 70 users attached to this service, in which the Council of Social Rights, promoter of this project, devotes an approximate budget of 200,000 €.

In order to meet these needs, the City of Murcia started in 2002 the program "Support in the Weekends for Families with Elderly Dependents" and in 2004 the program "Weekend Support for Families with Persons with Disabilities Dependent" , Which were unified in a single program two years later.

Until now, an annual call was approved for access to this service, which necessarily have to attend year after year those families who wanted to benefit from it.

This need for periodic attendance implies a difference with respect to the procedure established for access to other similar services, such as home help and home teleassistance, regulated by a municipal ordinance, which establishes, in a general way, the requirements and conditions of access to the service , And that once recognized the right to perceive it, are maintained in time and only extinguished when there is some special circumstance.
