Open the process of participation to make proposals on the Operational Plan of Tourism Development 2017-2020 (04/04/2017)

The Councilor for Employment, Tourism and Culture, Jesús Pacheco, presented this morning, within the framework of the II Conference on Neighborhood Participation, the Operational Plan for Tourism Development 2017-2020 and the participatory process that is now starting.

Thus, after the celebration of a technical day, which took place on March 23, addressed to the entities and agents who have intervened throughout the process of creating this plan, with the purpose of publicizing the work done today A new deadline of one month is opened so that the Murcia make the contributions that they consider appropriate, which will allow to have the definitive document throughout the second fortnight of May.

In this way, all those interested can know and contribute suggestions on the web www.participamurcia.es, through the email participacion@ayto-murcia.es and in the mobile application TuMurcia.

This new public consultation seeks to prioritize the lines of work with greater impact and select the operations that will be carried out in the first place.

The Operative Plan for Tourism Development establishes different challenges for the municipality in the coming years:

- Strengthen the structure and management of the tourism system: Articulate and coordinate the actions of the agents of the sector among themselves and strengthen the relations of the components of the value chain;

Placing tourism among the priority public policies of the municipality;

Take advantage of new technologies to optimize tourism management and achieve greater means and budgets for tourism management.

- Improve the visibility of Murcia as a tourist destination: Improve the brand image and promotional tools;

Involve the visitor in promoting Murcia as a tourist destination and increase the effect of institutional promotion with private promotion and comarketing.

- Improve the structure of the destination: Promote the preparation of the city for the arrival of the AVE;

Improve connections by public transport to the airport and take advantage of the city's impact projects such as the Huerta Project, Murcia River, San Esteban and Old Cárcelja.

- Involve the population: Increase the visibility of tourism among the population and raise awareness of the importance of tourism and the opportunity it represents to generate income and employment, so as to understand the need to contribute resources and adapt some aspects.

The objectives of the development of this plan are to have information that allows the monitoring, management and monitoring of the destination and the tourism industry of the municipality of Murcia, to promote the tourism development of the municipality of Murcia within the framework of a participatory process based on collaboration And coordination and sensitize the resident population of Murcia on the social and economic importance of tourism and its role as hosts, promoting the coexistence between tourists and residents, as well as the quality of reception of the destination.

It also seeks to boost the development of tourism in the municipality of Murcia through innovation and quality and turn the municipality of Murcia into a unique, intelligent and human tourist destination.

The strategic markets are Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid and Aragon, at national level, and United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany at international level;

Markets with high potential are Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and Catalonia and the Netherlands and Nordic countries;

And the complementary ones are Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Castile and Leon and the countries of Eastern Europe, USA and Portugal.

The City Council has been working on the Operational Plan for Tourism Development for months through the Board of Tourism of the Social Council of Murcia, citizen consultations with individual interviews, surveys of the main tourist agents of the municipality, with the Tourism Board and Festejos, created in the first Neighborhood Participation Days, and with a sectoral workshop on the competitiveness of tourism in Murcia and another on tourist products and promotion, both carried out at the end of last year.
