The nine large city projects take speed with new works and actions in progress (04/04/2017)

José Ballesta presents to the Social Council the progress achieved in the last two years in the execution of projects that transform the city as 'Murcia Río', San Esteban or the Old Jail.

The Second Day of Neighborhood Participation began this morning with the presentation by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, of the progress report on the state of Murcia's strategic projects to members of the City Council.

"Today we want to be accountable to all of you, legitimate representatives of the society of Murcia, close to the model of city that was elaborated 15 months ago within this Social Council, with the active participation of the different organizations and social agents of the city , And report in detail on the actions and progress that have taken place to date, "said the mayor.

Thus, José Ballesta reported that "during these 15 months progress has been made in the drafting of numerous transformative projects of the city included in this Strategy, public tenders, tenders and adjudications, so that many of these actions are already On the march, "he said.

'Murcia River'

Firstly, the mayor referred to the integration projects of 'Murcia Río', which will allow to create a large natural park and recreation of 250,000 m2 surrounding the river.

Currently, there are several projects underway such as the Garden of Four Stones, which is in competition and deadline for submission of bids, and Alameda, whose technical specifications will be approved in the coming days.

Also within 'Murcia Río' are in execution the works of the bike lane and the footpath that crosses the urban section of the river Segura.

In addition, the project and specifications have been approved to contract the lighting work in the whole section, from the Manterola catwalk to La Fica.

The mayor then referred to the great structuring projects of the city: the rehabilitation of the Old Cárcel, the recovery of San Esteban and the expansion of museum spaces of the Interpretation Center of the archaeological complex of the wall of Santa Eulalia.

Regarding the Old Jail, the mayor reported that "this April, the bases for the pre-projects contest are expected to be approved and published.

On April 26, together with the Official College of Architects, a day of work will be developed with different groups to give ideas to potential contestants. "

In relation to San Esteban, a comprehensive project that includes a total of 23,000 m2, there are three actions in progress.

"The Master Plan has been awarded to a multidisciplinary team and very soon we will have a breakthrough," said the mayor.

At present, the 'San Esteban open for construction' actions are being carried out, which involves the construction of a circular pedestrian walkway with its own lighting and a viewpoint, and the 'in situ' conservation of the structure of the site with the substitution and renovation that protects the remains.

The project for the extension of the Interpretation Center of the Santa Eulalia wall, "which is included in the budgets of 2017, is also under way and will entail a corridor under Santa Eulalia square that runs through Wall".

Finally, José Ballesta referred to the actions that are included within the recovery of the city for the pedestrian and the cyclist.

Here he highlighted the project of recovery of Alfonso X El Sabio, who after being subjected to social consultation, already has the favorable report of the Directorate General of Cultural Property.

Its bidding and approval is scheduled for May.

Also within the recovery of spaces for pedestrians and cyclists is the recent presentation of the Bicycle Action Plan 2017-2019, which includes the creation of four major North-South and East-West axes of 20 kilometers of cycle paths That allow to circulate by the city and give connection to the districts.

Finally, the mayor referred to "a project in which we have deposited many illusions" and announced that "has already been ceded to the municipality of Murcia by Adif the old section of the railway that ran through the districts of Los Dolores , Beniaján, Torreagüera, Los Ramos and Alquerías, that will allow to create a great green path of 8 kilometers for pedestrians and cyclists ".

Finally, the mayor reported that, within the Huerta Plan of Action, "the recovery of the historic palm grove of Santiago and Zaraiche is already under way" and during this year the first works for the recovery of the mills will begin Of the hydraulic network of the ditches of the Huerta de Murcia.

"These are transformative projects of the city, which are already underway and have begun to take greater speed," said the mayor, who added that "this commitment to the recovery of public spaces will allow the Murcia to enjoy again Of environments and emblematic places of our natural and historical patrimony ".

Conventions with women's associations and a meeting with young people

After the presentation, José Ballesta signed collaboration agreements with the associations of the women's centers of the municipality and received the proposals of a hundred young people from neighborhoods and districts, who sent him their opinions and suggestions for the future of the city, within Also of the II Conference on Neighborhood Participation.

In the afternoon, the mayor and councilors of the Government team, will hold individual meetings with the neighbors of the municipality.

"We want to be accountable to the Murcia people and give them a voice so they can send us their proposals, complaints or suggestions directly, face to face and without intermediaries," said the mayor.

Until 6:30 pm a Participation Room will be opened in which will be made available to the neighbors tablets and computers to consult all the updated information on the progress of strategic city projects.
