The UCAM presents a book on the life of Nicola Salzillo (28/03/2017)

"The investigation began when I went to the city of Nicola Salzillo, Santa Maria Capua Vetere (Italy), to look for their baptism that was unpublished," said the illustrator and painter, Zacarias Cerezo, this morning at the presentation of the book Nicola Salzillo In Santa Maria Capua Vetere.

The origin, in the Museum Salzillo that was attended by its director, Maria Teresa Marín, and the Vice Chancellor of Religious Affairs of the Catholic University, José Alberto Cánovas.

The work, written by Giovanni Laurenza, was funded by the UCAM to investigate the figure of Nicola Salzillo and also that of his son Francisco, who became the best sculptor of the eighteenth century.

"With this work is intended to fill a space quite unknown to the artist," Cánovas explained.

"We are interested in the past of Nicola Salzillo because we lacked information about his youth and we are not sure of his place of birth," said Cerezo to the book.

In this sense, the president of the Executive Commission of the Salzillo Museum, Antonio Gómez Fairén, highlighted the footprint left by the Salzillo in Spanish society, especially in Murcia, because "Nicola Salzillo came to Murcia and married a Murcia And, for that reason, Francisco was born, the genius of the Spanish baroque of which we enjoy with his work ".

He added that the figure of Francisco Salzillo is still "as valid as in the eighteenth century," despite having spent "about 240 years of his death."

Proof of this is that the Museum has presented in the last month three books, counting today, on Salzillo and his father, but "the latter comes directly from the origins in Italy and was made possible by the tenacity of Zacarías Cerezo and The generosity of the UCAM. "
