Training, main tool to achieve equality between men and women (24/03/2017)

"The glass ceiling is real and we have to work to break it. The best weapon we have to get it is the formation."

With these words, María Jesús Bonilla, lawyer and national deputy for the Popular Party, wanted to highlight one of the objectives that is marked as director of the International Chair 'Women, Company and Sport' of the UCAM that today has begun its journey with The official presentation in the Temple of the Monastery of Los Jerónimos.

About 400 students, professors and workers of the Catholic University have witnessed the presentation in which they have participated, along with María Jesús Bonilla, José Luis Mendoza, president of the UCAM;

Antonio Sánchez Pato, dean of the Faculty of Sports;

And Gonzalo Wandosell, Deputy Dean of the Degree in Business Administration and Management.

They attended the event: Patricia Fernandez, mayor of Archena;

Alicia Barquero, director general of Women of the Region of Murcia;

Manuela Marín, President of OMEP (Organization of Business Women and Professionals of the Region of Murcia);

Marian Cascales, president of AMEFMUR (Murcian Association of Family Business);

Isabel Sánchez, Chief Executive Officer of Disfrimur;

Josefina García, rector of the UCAM;

And Estrella Núñez, vice rector of Research, among many other women with positions of responsibility in the University.

Also present was the management team of the chair that will accompany María Jesús Bonilla: Concepción Bravo, Gema García-Consuegra and María Dolores Bolarín.

José Luis Mendoza emphasized in his speech the need to continue taking steps towards true equality: "The role of women in today's society is essential." The woman has a vision of reality different from man so that we complement each other. This chair wants to train entrepreneurs, managers and entrepreneurs to renew the business fabric, to promote the culture of effort and to educate in values ​​".

In addition, he stressed the need for "companies to have codes of equality that make it possible to reconcile work and family life." Institutions and governments also have an important responsibility here.

The UCAM has for years had a code that guarantees equal pay and opportunities between men and women.

In this direction, María Jesús Bonilla has pointed out some of the aspects in which they are already working: "We are going to open lines of research to make real proposals to the institutions. Discussion and training will be fundamental for this chair."

Precisely in this need to promote education in equality has stressed the director of the chair: "Women and their professional achievements will be our main object of analysis.

In addition, it has marked the areas of action of a chair that is born with an international vocation: "It is evident that we will work at the national level with actions in Murcia and Madrid but, by cultural and strategic ties, we will also be pending in Latin America and Europe."
