The students of the IES Saavedra Fajardo award the playwright Alberto Conejero with the Maria Jesús Sirvent award (22/03/2017)

The students of IES Saavedra Fajardo High School have awarded the prize for the theatrical season of 2016 to the playwright Alberto Conejero for his work 'La piedra oscura' represented at the Teatro Circo de Murcia on April 21, 2016.

The award ceremony will take place next Friday March 24 at 13.30 in the Hall of Mirrors of the Teatro Romea de Murcia, and will be attended by the award-winning Alberto Conejero, by María Jesús Sirvent, a former student of the IES Saavedra Fajardo and relevant actress of the Spanish theater and the students members of the jury.

Previously, at 12.30 hours students will be able to chat with the winner.

The Maria Jesus Sirvent theatrical award was created by IES Saavedra Fajardo to award the best theatrical proposal of the works to which students have attended during the year 2016, thanks to the collaboration of the Department of Employment, Tourism and Culture.

The jury has designated the work "La piedra oscura" for "its way of approaching the Spanish Civil War through people with names and surnames" and as the work shows that "in spite of ideological discrepancies it is possible the understanding and the understanding".

The regular attendance of the students of the center to theater performances is a constant in the last five courses and a sample of the theatrical interest in the institute as evidenced by the existence of a school theater group, which has the help of the Department Of Youth of the City of Murcia.

In the academic year 2015-16, the component students of the jury attended the performances of 'Ninette y un señor de Murcia' and 'Los caciques' at the Teatro Romea and 'A mocking spirit' and 'La piedra oscura' at Teatro Circo.

The playwright Alberto Conejero holds a degree in Theater and Drama Direction from the Royal School of Dramatic Art in Madrid and a doctor from the Complutense University of Madrid is a professor of dramaturgy at ESAD in Valladolid.

His work 'The dark stone' addresses the persistence of being, taking as a background the relationship between Federico García Lorca and the one who was his last partner, Rafael Rodríguez Rapún.

He won the Best Original Creation Award at the Max Awards of 2016, a work that was already awarded in 2015 with the Ceres Award of the Merida Festival.

He is also a translator and dramaturgist of Greek and Roman classics (Homero, Ovid) going through the Golden Age, his contemporaries (thus, of Shakespeare, Macbeth and The Tempest) and other more contemporary authors or scenic syntheses, such as the altarpiece of pilgrims, Assembly created for Traces of La Barraca in 2010. For the Young Company has staged his adaptation of Homer's Odyssey.

He has also written for young audiences with 'El libro loco del Quijote' (2005) and 'El beso de Aquiles' (2006), published in SM publisher.

In 2016 he publishes his first poemario 'Si descubres un incendio' in the publishing house La bella Varsovia.

With the decision of the IES Saavedra Fajardo to give the name of María Jesús Sirvent to these theatrical awards, we want to recognize the importance of theater in the training of students, both in the regular attendance of the works programmed in the city and The practice of one's own interpretation as a means of artistic expression and personal maturation of young people.

María Jesús Sirvent is an example of the importance of how the closeness to the world of interpretation from the educational field can lead to a successful theatrical career.

The first contact of María Jesús with the theatrical world began in the classrooms and the hand of a professor of institute, Jesus Molina in the sixties of the XX century within the company Harlequin, that put in the scene children works like El sastrecillo brave.

Later Sirvent happened to comprise of the University Theater of Murcia, marking a whole time in the Murcia scene.

Later the actress made the leap to the national theatrical scene of the hand of Tamayo and Baus and has developed an intense theatrical race until the end of the 90s, working in works produced by the National Drama Center, the Spanish Theater and the Fine Arts Theater And of authors as relevant as Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Calderón de la Barca, Valle Inclán.

He has also performed works by contemporary authors such as Camus, Jaime Salom, Buero Vallejo, Antonio Gala and Vargas Llosa.
