Parks and Gardens removes more than 640,000 kilos of oranges from the trees of Murcia and districts (20/03/2017)

The Department of Modernization of Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, through the Parks and Gardens Service, is finalizing the pruning of the 12,800 orange trees that are planted in districts and districts of Murcia.

In this way, half a hundred workers have worked for two weeks to remove the more than 640 tons of oranges that were in the trees.

Guillén recalled that this pruning seeks to "get the trees to fruit in a well distributed way to avoid that the trees continue their tendency to form fruit in the exterior and to house in the interior a very dense foliage that does not let light pass."

In addition, accidents or slips of people are avoided when walking on the sidewalks because of the fall of the oranges.

In addition, according to experts, this is an improvement of the tree by eliminating the fruit and encourage greater flowering and development of the shoots of the specimen.

Oranges are collected by employees of the Parks and Gardens Service who send them directly to the waste plant for composting.

Irrespective of this pruning, the Parks and Gardens Service carries out numerous revisions and actions throughout the year to eliminate any problems affecting the tree and its development.
