The City Council recognizes the work of local police officers and their service to the city on St. Patrick's Day (17/03/2017)

For the first time in the act of San Patricio, the mayor wanted to recognize the work of the policemen who, despite being out of service -, were incorporated to help the residents of Murcia, during the last crisis of December.

The festival commemorates the victory of the battle of the Alporchones, 17 of March of 1452, by which the Council of Murcia agreed its appointment like Patron of the City and the kingdom.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, the Councilor for Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, Lola Sánchez, the Government delegate, Antonio Sánchez Solís, and the Minister of Presidency, María Dolores Pagán, delivered today the distinctions to the Local Police , On the occasion of Saint Patrick, Patron of the Body, a festival commemorating the victory of the Battle of the Alporchones, on March 17, 1452, by which the Council of Murcia agreed to his appointment as Patron of the City and kingdom.

The mayor stressed that "the Local Police Corps of Murcia, the women and men I have had the opportunity to meet, who have seen their work well and improve every day, are servants of the law, agents of intervention In situations of risk, committed to guaranteeing the free exercise of our rights, citizen security and compliance with the law. "

In this sense, he added that "today security is a dynamic challenge that is built from the professionalism and unswerving vocation of service, but also from science and technology, from cooperation and dialogue with the State Security Forces and Bodies , National Police and Civil Guard, to which I also thank publicly for their priceless work and their commitment to Murcia. "

"Because without security," he continued, "there is no freedom, no social rights, no progress, no justice."

During 2016 the Local Police received more than 157,000 calls to consult information, request assistance or respond to any type of demand and performed 97,000 actions, of which more than 2,000 were humanitarian.

Recognition of the rescue device during the rains

For the first time at the San Patricio event, the mayor wanted to recognize the work of a group of police officers representing the dozens of staff members who volunteered - despite being out of service - to help Neighbors of the municipality of Murcia, on the occasion of the storm that suffered Murcia last December.

The public representatives awarded the Cross to Police Merit with White Distinction to 29 municipal police officers and three people outside the Corps: Civil Guard Colonel Jesús Arribas, the Regional Operations Chief of the National Police, Commissar Alfonso Navarro, and the chief Of the Civil Protection Service of the City of Murcia, Francisco Javier Griñán.

The authorities awarded a Public Personal Greeting to 28 active Local Police officers and distinguished with the Local Police Badge eight agents retired in the last year.

After the delivery of the insignia was carried out the act of Homage to the Fallen in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga.
