The Transportation Bureau is constituted to address issues of social interest through participation (15/03/2017)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, presided today the constitution of the Public Transportation Bureau in the municipality of Murcia, which addressed issues of social interest such as the admission of double carriages in the municipal bus service, Certain schedules and services, and improving public transport in districts.

This is the first session of this consultative body of citizen participation, an initial meeting in which the information that will be developed later with the different associations of neighbors and users will be integrated into the Bureau, who will be able to transmit their proposals and needs Of improvement.

During the session, the rules for the organization and operation of the Bureau were approved and discussed and discussed proposals previously approved by the Plenary, such as the need to improve public transport on the lines that serve the districts.

In this way, after this first constitutive session, the Bureau will study the feasibility of the various proposals that have been raised today, such as the modification of the period established as summer time, which currently extends from June 22 to September 7 , Or new measures to improve transportation in districts, such as those already launched by the City Council last October in Lines 30 and 78.

In this sense, it should be noted that this latest improvement has led to an increase in the number of expeditions and frequencies of buses connecting the districts of the Southern Coast with Murcia, a measure that currently benefits 100,000 residents of a total of 16 districts.

The meeting also revealed the need to carry out an analysis of the actual demand for Lightning 14, which serves the population centers of Ranero, Joven Futura and Juan Carlos I, among others.

In this sense, moved the need to establish a bus stop more in the Senda de Granada and enable a new route to reduce and expedite the journey time;

A measure that was also approved by the Plenary held last December.

Regarding the admission of twin-carts to the municipal transport service, the importance of making their use compatible with that of persons with reduced mobility who move in a wheelchair, given the limitations of vehicle space and Need to ensure the safety of all users.

Plurality and participation

The Transport Bureau is an advisory and participation body in which the entities and agents most representative in the field, discuss the problems of mobility related to urban public transport and collaborate in the monitoring and promotion of sustainable public transport in the Municipality of Murcia.

It is composed of all political groups, the Autonomous Community, concessionaires of public transport, the taxi sector, the Bicycle Observatory, environmental organizations, the Cermi, and neighborhood associations, merchants and consumers.

The aim of this new body is to analyze the mobility and transport situation in the municipality of Murcia, the city and the districts, and propose and promote initiatives to promote the use of public transport, as well as to promote coordination between institutions or entities Of public or private nature to carry out the initiatives and actions that improve the mobility.
