La Huerta takes over the city this weekend (11/03/2017)

In the Malecón Gardens, the Biodiversity Fair is held, with exhibitions of seeds and wild plants, vertical orchards, elaboration of homemade remedies and workshops of healthy cooking.

The San Francisco Plan is home to an autochthonous and organic food market.

The enclosure of the old livestock fair of Los Dolores-La Azacaya houses a large 'Estampa Huertana' of traditions and customs with native animals, folklore, trovos and samples of trades.

The Gardens of the Malecón, the Plaza de Santo Domingo, the San Francisco Plan, La Glorieta, La Fica and the enclosure of the Old Cattle Fair of La Azacaya host this weekend the different activities of the II Week of the Orchard of Murcia, to which have added thousands of people taking advantage of the good weather.

From the beginning of the Malecón this morning the bike route 'Walking by the mills of the Alfalfa', a guided tour on two wheels to the most emblematic mills of the Huerta: the Old Mill of the Gunpowder, Casianos, of Love, of The 4 Stones and Gasques.

In the Malecón Gardens the Biodiversity Fair took place, with exhibitions of seeds and wild plants, vertical orchards, elaboration of 'green life balls' and compost, elaboration of home remedies with plants, etc.

The gastronomy also carried out some of the activities that took place in this space with two free workshops: one about cooking with gluten-free whole grains and another about the elaboration of salads and vegetable dressings with wild plants.

The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by Councilor for Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, and Councilor for Trade, Maruja Pelegrín, visited the various activities and noted that "in this second edition we have increased the number of actions And incorporated novelties with which we are going to surprise and attract the whole family, so we expect that participation will exceed the 20,000 people that were accounted for last year. The Plan of San Francisco is another of the places where Huerta takes center stage, with a market of indigenous products and ecological food, that today as well as tomorrow Sunday will be open from 9 am to 8 pm.

The Plaza de Santo Domingo has been the starting point for the 'Azacaya' Huerta Photo Marathon and more than 20 establishments in the city offer the gastronomic route 'Huerteando' until this Sunday, with traditional stews and tapas made with products from the Earth.

Also this afternoon, starting at 19.00 hours, will take place the Moon Bike, a bike route in the light of the moon, 10 kilometers, which leaves from La Glorieta.

The Second Week of the Orchard of Murcia, organized by the City Council together with the Association of Friends of the Huerta Azacaya, has about a hundred activities for all ages and the participation of some twenty groups and local groups.

The objective is to bring Murcia residents and visitors the environmental, gastronomic, patrimonial and cultural wealth of the Huerta de Murcia.

An 'Estampa Huertana' at the old cattle fair

Tomorrow, in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, starting at 11:00 am, the activity 'Cooking the Huerta' will take place, which includes the show cooking 'La Huerta en la cuchara', in which chefs Juan Antonio Pellicer, Javier Velandrino , María Dolores Baró and the gastronomic hut Las Buenas Migas will hold a culinary exhibition with products from the land.

Great closure: family entertainment and popular food

Leisure for all ages and healthy activities and outdoors are also a central part of the program of the II Week of the Orchard of Murcia.

In addition, the week will culminate on Sunday with a popular meal in the old public school of Monteagudo, which closes the family march organized for that day, and which collaborates the Association of Friends of the Orchard Azacaya.
