The centenary teacher (09/03/2017)

"You have been a demanding and yet beloved teacher, because with each teaching you have transmitted your infinite goodness and your vital joy," stressed José Ballesta.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today attended the tribute to the teacher José Castaño and the inauguration of the VI Cultural Conference '100 years learning ... And 25 educating', organized by the school Jose Castaño Maestro Murcia from March 9 to 17.

The event was attended by the dear Don Jose Castaño, who celebrated his hundred years of life, coinciding with the day of his birthday, surrounded by the 208 children of the center, the teaching staff and members of the Municipal Corporation.

The students paid tribute to this tireless teacher, Gold Medal of Merit at Work - awarded by the Government of Spain in 2007 - with the planting of a cypress and grouped together to form the number 100 with their silhouettes in the yard .

The music was put by the Tuna of the Faculty of Education of the University of Murcia.

"You have dedicated 25 years of your life and your entire passion to forming generations and generations of Murcian children and adults, a teaching that today lives on in them, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren;

And that you have known how to convey to your colleagues in the profession, "said the mayor, who added that" a teacher works for eternity, because you never know where your influence ends. "

Also, José Ballesta stressed that "you have been a demanding teacher and yet loved by all, because with each teaching you have been able to transmit your infinite goodness and your vital joy."

Magisterium: vocation and satisfaction

Born in Melilla, but with murcian parents and grandparents, José Castaño came to live in Murcia at the age of 14 and enrolled in the Alfonso X el Sabio Institute.

His first intention was to study Medicine, although he opted for the Magisterium, so what he lost the health was gained the teaching.

He made his first practices on January 1, 1938 at the Plaza de la Paja school in the Carmen neighborhood and collaborated in the creation of the School Colonies in Murcia.

However, after two months of having started to exercise, he was called up to fight in the Civil War.

After the war ended, José was imprisoned for ideological reasons, and remained for two years until his release in 1941. While his wife - a teacher and a family member - taught, José had to dedicate himself to other trades, although always Was linked to teaching others altruistically.

In 1975 he was able to rejoin the magisterium at Mariano Aroca school.

Later he worked at the García Álix center, where he remained until his retirement in 1984. However, his vocation and satisfaction was teaching, so he asked to continue giving classes, specifically, Language to the elders.

It was then, in 1990, when a new school was built next to the garden of La Seda, whose faculty agreed to call the center 'Teacher Jose Castaño' in his honor.

In his homonymous school he has continued to exercise until his mobility and health have allowed it.

His visits are no longer daily, but he does not stop going whenever he can.

Cultural Journeys and Solidarity Race

The 6th Cultural Conference '100 years of learning ... and 25 education', organized by the Maestro José Castaño School in Murcia from March 9 to 17, will be attended by more than 350 students, parents and teachers.

The center has prepared a complete program of activities that includes exhibitions in the school, sports meetings, stories, music and theater.

In addition, next Friday, March 17, will be held the Third Race-Solidarity Race, next to the garden of La Seda, whose benefits will go to children sponsored by the school in Latin America and India.
