Workshops, conferences and international conferences, in the programming of the Cátedra Arturo Pérez-Reverte of the UMU and the Cajamurcia Foundation (08/03/2017)

The headquarters of the Cajamurcia Foundation in Las Claras has been the setting for the presentation of the activities of the "Arturo Pérez-Reverte" Chair, created a year ago thanks to an agreement between the University of Murcia and the Cajamurcia Foundation.

The aim of the Chair is research, training and dissemination in the field of Spanish and Spanish American literature and the work of Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

It involves both professors and university students and professionals in the sector.

It also aims to create an international network among universities from different countries for the exchange of knowledge related to this field of knowledge, enhancing scientific research around reading and literary creation.

Chair in the best hands

Professor José María Pozuelo Yvancos, the other co-director of the initiative, referred that "the chair was born with a double will: research and social projection, two fields that must be very present in the University."

Pozuelo said that "although Perez-Reverte is a writer with a lot of projection, we want the actions to be extended to activities that include the narrative of other writers of his generation."

He commented that among the initiatives that will be carried out this year, the Arturo Pérez-Reverte Research Prize will be called, aimed at promoting the study of the journalistic and narrative work of the Cartagena writer.

The prize is endowed with three thousand euros destined to the edition of a book, and will be granted to a research work unpublished around the narrative and journalistic work of the author of "The club Dumas", between 200 and 300 pages, that Meet the conditions of scientific quality and originality.

The deadline for submission is set until December 15, 2017.

Pozuelo added that the jury will be composed of a group of specialists of international prestige and have already addressed 300 departments of Language and Literature of the five continents.

Comic book workshop

The first of the activities will be a comic book workshop about Captain Alatriste by Joan Mundet, cartoonist of this series and chosen by the writer himself to draw his saga.

It will be the days 21 and 22 of March in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Murcia.

Registration will be free and is aimed at students of Fine Arts, History of Art and Education, but also to all interested public.

Alexis Grohmann, Professor of Literature at the University of Edinburgh, will give a lecture on "The narrative work of Arturo Pérez-Reverte" at 9 AM at the UMU Faculty of Arts.

Days on Pérez-Reverte in Italy

The activities of 2017 will culminate on November 13 and 14 at the University of Genoa (Italy), "a university with a lot of tradition with Hispanism", said Belmonte, a conference on "Arturo Pérez-Reverte and the novel of the XXI century in Spain, "which will include some of the best Hispanists in the world and the writer himself, who presumably will have finished shortly before the process of writing and correcting the second part of his series" Falcó ".

Participants will include Gonzalo Navajas (University of Los Angeles, Irvine), Marie-Thérese García (University of Toulon), Grohmann, Marco Succio (University of Genoa) and the two co-directors of the chair and professors of the University Of Murcia: José María Pozuelo and José Belmonte.
