The PSOE criticizes the lack of interest and lack of commitment of the government of Ballestas in Cooperation to the Development (02/03/2017)

Socialists denounce the lack of commitment of the PP in this area, allocating only 0.08% of the municipal budget to development projects while other municipalities are close to the target of 0.7%, as is the case of Zaragoza, which allocates 0.44%

The councilor of the Socialist Municipal Group, Maite Espinosa, held a meeting with Miguel Baños and César Ribeiro, members of Amnesty International in the Region of Murcia, on Thursday to discuss various issues related to Development Cooperation and the reception of refugees in The municipality of Murcia.

The mayor of the PSOE has lamented that the PP government "do not take Development Cooperation seriously and allow the City of Murcia to stand in line on such a serious issue."

In this sense, Espinosa recalled that, currently, the budget allocated by the municipality to projects of cooperation is 0.08% of the total, having addressed only 16 projects with a cost of just 400,000 euros in 2015, "while municipalities Like the one of Zaragoza destine to cooperation the 0.44%, arriving in 2015 to invest more than three million euros in 70 projects ".

"If town councils of municipalities with characteristics similar to Murcia are trying to reach the 0.7% target advocated by non-governmental organizations for Development Cooperation, the lack of cooperation and investment programs of the City of Murcia must respond to the disinterest of the government of Ballesta And the lack of involvement of the PP in these issues, as also show the investment data in cooperation of the regional government of Pedro Antonio Sánchez, "explained the PSOE councilor.

Reception of refugees in Murcia

As for the accession of the municipality of Murcia to the Network of Municipalities for Reception of Refugees last May 2016, the mayor of the Socialist Group denounces that "despite the promises and announcements of Ballesta, are not meeting the commitments Reception and assistance to refugees in the municipality "and recalled that these commitments are also violated by the PP in the regional government and in the national government.

Amnesty International denounces that, despite the promise of the Rajoy government to welcome more than 17,300 people, only 900 have arrived, so that, according to them, the total number committed will not be fulfilled within the deadline announced (2025).

"That is why, from Amnesty, they call on municipalities to take a step forward and help accelerate the process of receiving refugees, publicizing the number of places they can offer and pledging to serve these people who need asylum" .

In this sense, the Municipal Socialist Group demands the Ballesta government "height of views, solidarity and word," and claim that the City of Murcia collaborate and contribute to the maximum to make possible the reception of refugees in the municipality.

Likewise, the PSOE will join the call for the Amnesty International concentration on Saturday, March 4 at 12 noon in La Glorieta, "an action that is part of the 'I welcome' campaign and has all the support of the Socialist Party, which is next to Amnesty International and along with the rest of NGOs in each of their demands, "concluded Espinosa.
