The young athlete, protagonist in the International Sports Injury Congress (01/03/2017)

Caring for younger athletes to adopt age-appropriate work routines to prevent future injuries or chronic injuries is one of the main objectives of the fourth edition of the International Sports Injury Prevention Conference held at UCAM since Tomorrow (2 and 3 March).

Professionals, teachers and researchers of first line will share their experiences in a meeting that is already a reference in the field of sports medicine.

The inauguration of the congress will be tomorrow at 10:30 am in the temple of the Monastery of Los Jerónimos.

One of the highlights of this congress is its multidisciplinary perspective as it addresses the health of the basic athlete from areas such as traumatology, physiotherapy, cardiology, education, physiology or nutrition, among others.

Different topics such as the prevention of sudden death in children and adolescents who practice sports, growth factors associated with the appearance of injuries, the importance of proper nutrition and hydration or even the prevention of doping are some of the issues that will be addressed During the two days that the meeting will last.

Exhibition with great stars of the sport

Due to the central theme of the congress and the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the UCAM, the organization of the event has prepared a special exhibition to illustrate the importance of the care of the young athlete.

Under the title 'I was also a child', great sports stars such as the Gasol brothers (Pau and Marc), Rafa Nadal, Andrés Iniesta, Sergio Ramos and Mireia Belmonte, among others, will offer their advice to children and adolescents who play sports Along with two photographs, one present and one from when they were children and could not imagine how far they would get in the sport.

More than forty athletes have participated in this exhibition of photographs and experiences that can be visited in the cloister of the Monastery.

Researchers and professionals of international level

As usual in this congress, the different lectures, conferences and workshops will be given by professionals and researchers of the highest prestige such as Pedro Manonelles, president of the Spanish Society of Sports Medicine (SEMED);

Raquel Blasco, head of Internal Medicine and Nutrition at the Sports Medicine Center of Castilla y León;

Gerardo Villa, Professor of Physical Education and Sports of the University of León;

Jordi Ardévol, president of the Spanish Society of Sports Traumatology (SETRADE);

Jeff Mjaanes, director of Sports Medicine at Northwestern University (Chicago, USA);

Julio Calleja, a professor at the University of the Basque Country who has worked in the Spanish Basketball Team and even in NBA teams;

Luis Serratosa, head of the Sports Medicine, Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy department of Quirónsalud Madrid and Hospital Quirón San Camilo;

Or Avery Faigenbaum, a professor at TCNJ (The College of New Jersey) who specializes in health and sports sciences, among others.

Meeting of the Executive of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS)

Coinciding with the celebration of the congress, the Campus of Los Jerónimos will also host an important meeting between the members of the FIMS (International Federation of Sports Medicine) that will begin their session tomorrow (Thursday, March 2) at 09:30 hours in the Chapter Room.
