A week to be seduced by the Orchard (01/03/2017)

The City Council and a score of social groups of the municipality organize a hundred activities within the II Week of the Orchard of Murcia, to be held from 6 to 12 March.

The enclosure of the old cattle fair of Los Dolores-La Azacaya will host a large 'Estampa Huertana' of traditions and customs with native animals, folklore, trovos and trade shows.

The gastronomy is this year a central axis, with the route Huerteando, the Market of Products of the Orchard, a show cooking and the children's workshop of kitchen huertana

The Councilor for Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, today presented the II Week of the Orchard of Murcia, organized by the City Council together with the Association of Friends of the Orchard Azacaya, an event with about a hundred activities for all The ages and the participation of twenty local groups and groups, which aims to bring Murcia residents and visitors the environmental, gastronomic, patrimonial and cultural wealth of the Huerta de Murcia.

"Most of the activities will take place from Monday 6th to Sunday 12th of March and we expect a participation that surpasses the 20,000 people that were counted last year, since for this second edition we have increased the number of shares and incorporated news with which We will surprise and attract the whole family, "said Navarro Corchón.

Guided environmental itineraries, the Gastronomic Route, show cooking, market of vegetable products, a forum of experts with first level conferences, cycling route in bicycle and family walking, visits to the hydraulic and agricultural heritage, gardens of leisure, workshops and seminars In nature, the Biodiversity Fair, ecological volunteering, exhibitions, documentaries, educational activities with schoolchildren, a photo marathon, and an open session of the Council of Good Men, among many other activities.

An 'Estampa Huertana' at the old cattle fair

Thus, the great 'Estampa Huertana' of traditions and customs stands out that is going to mount in the enclosure of the old cattle fair (Los Dolores-La Azacaya), Saturday 11 of March.

There will be an exhibition of animals of native breeds (porcine, vaccine, bovine, ovine, caprine and birds), in collaboration with the IMIDA, colombicultura, folklore of the Huerta with rondallas and trovos by part of the rocks, sample of trades like the work With esparto, carriage rides along the lanes of Los Dolores and tasting typical products of the Huerta killing.

In addition, on Sunday 12 in the Plaza de Santo Domingo, starting at 11:00 am, the activity 'Cooking the Garden' will take place, which includes the show cooking 'La Huerta en la cuchara', in which chefs Juan Antonio Pellicer , Julio Velandrino, María Dolores Baró and the gastronomic hut Las Buenas Migas will hold a culinary exhibition with products from the land.

There will also be a children's kitchen workshop and chef Juan Antonio Pellicer will present the recipe book 'La Huerta en la cuchara'.

Family fun, Moon Bike and popular food

Leisure for all ages and healthy activities and outdoors are also a central part of the program of the II Week of the Orchard of Murcia.

That is why, on Saturday, March 11, the Moon Bike, a 10-kilometer moonlight bike route, will be organized at 7 pm from La Glorieta.

Also on two rues will take place two other routes on Sunday 12 that will tour the Castles of Montegaudo: one of 15 kilometers with departure from Víctor Villegas, and another family with a guided itinerary of 6.3 km, that leaves and arrives from the center Of San Cayetano.

To facilitate participation, the City Council will provide free buses with continuous departures from the Fica esplanade, from 11 am to 1 pm.

In addition, the week will culminate with a popular meal in the old public school of Monteagudo, which closes the family march organized for that day, and in which the Association of Friends of the Huerta Azacaya collaborates.

Plan of Action of the Huerta de Murcia

This Week, open to the participation of all the neighbors, counts on the collaboration of the Association of Friends of the Huerta Azacaya, and is part of the set of initiatives and measures included in "Plan of Recovery and Protection of the Orchard of Murcia, A roadmap designed to revitalize and take care of this natural environment, which is a living part of the identity of the municipality, "said Antonio Navarro.

Specifically, the Municipal Action Plan, agreed with the City Council, covers an area of ​​160 km2 and includes the environmental recovery of natural sites, the habilitation and improvement of green trails for tourist routes, the implementation of a Bank of Earth to encourage production in orchards without agricultural activity, and the recovery of hydraulic heritage, among other actions.

Activities in schools

The Huerta School Week will last until the end of the year, and it is an initiative to which all schools in the municipality are invited to participate.

Includes guided tours to learn about traditional heritage, informative talks, school workshops, drawing competitions and school writing, school gardens, as well as dissemination of information material in the different centers.

Dissemination forum: 'Murcia River' as an example of social participation

The City Council has also organized a forum of first level with international speakers, who will deepen on projects such as 'Murcia River', the archeology of the Monteagudo Castles, urban planning and the Huerta as an agropolitan space.

The conferences will take place from Monday 6 to Friday, February 10, at 7:00 pm, in the auditorium of Edificio Moneo.
