UMU doctoral thesis studied the entomological fauna associated with corpses (27/02/2017)

The study of the entomological fauna associated with corpses has been the subject of analysis of the doctoral thesis carried out in the Faculty of Biology of the University of Murcia (UMU) by María Pérez Marcos, with which it has obtained the qualification of outstanding cum laude .

This research has allowed to observe the influence of environmental variables on the succession of the sarcosaphage community and the relationship between the different taxa and the ecological groups with the decomposition phase in which the corpse was found, registering differences between the different seasons of the year.

The follow up done for the doctoral thesis has allowed to verify that the most abundant order in the captures was the one of Diptera, being its adults 91% of the total of the studied fauna.

The coleopteran order was the second, followed immediately by the hymenoptera.

The analysis of the wide variety of species attracted by corpses constitutes a useful and necessary tool in forensic studies, since with the same one can extract data of great interest to indicate the date of death.

The doctoral thesis was directed by UMU professors María Dolores García García and María Isabel Arnaldos Sanabria.
