The PSOE proposes a plan of municipal action against episodes of environmental pollution and insists on the need to equip the municipality of Murcia with stations for the measurement of the state of the air (18/02/2017)

The Socialist Group brings to municipal plenary an initiative for the City of Murcia and the Autonomous Community to sign a collaboration agreement for the construction of new metering stations and requests that the data collected on the municipality of Murcia are in the public domain

The Socialist Municipal Group will request in plenary session next Thursday that the City of Murcia sign a collaboration agreement with the Autonomous Community for the construction and technological endowment of new stations measuring the state of the air in the municipality.

Likewise, the PSOE will propose that these stations publicly disseminate the recorded data and that, among them, those of pollutants with the highest risk for human health.

The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group, Enrique Ayuso, explained on Saturday that the existing metering stations, owned by the Autonomous Community and installed in Alcantarilla and San Basilio, "are insufficient for a municipality that has had a great development of Road infrastructure and urbanization, have obsolete equipment, frequent technical failures and breakdowns, and do not report contaminants as worrying as the PM2.5 microparticles or Sulfur Dioxide, which has a great impact on health.

"It is at least surprising that the seventh population capital of our country, with more than 450,000 inhabitants, does not have a single station dependent on the municipality to record the basic values of air quality, when this is one of the most important environmental problems Of the big cities, "Ayuso insisted.

The recent report on air quality in the Region of Murcia during 2016 by the Ecologistas en Acción association based on official Community data has revealed a worrying increase in some of the most harmful air pollutants Of people in the municipality of Murcia.

"The conclusions of this report coincide with the demands of the Ombudsman to the City of Murcia, which at the end of last year asked our Consistory, along with thirteen other municipalities, information on short-term action plans to combat this Type of pollution, "explained Ayuso.

The Municipal Socialist Group asks in its initiative that the government of Ballesta write for its negotiation with the rest of the political groups a plan of action in the short term that establishes the measures to be carried out in situations of contaminating levels of contamination.

The Socialists highlight as more alarming the high levels of tropospheric ozone, which has exceeded the limit values of the World Health Organization more than a hundred times last year (one hundred four exceedances detected in the Alcantarilla-Murcia station and eighty in the Of San Basilio), surpassing even the high values of previous years.

The Councilor of the Socialist Group has insisted that excessive pollution by ozone can cause respiratory problems, cause asthma, reduce lung function and lead to lung diseases.

It is currently one of the most important air pollutants in Europe, and is confident that all political groups will support the socialist initiative.
