"Implantology represents the present and future of dentistry" Adriano Piattelli, Doctor Honoris Causa for the UCAM, and who participates in the First International Congress of Implantology, will lead the new Chair of the institution on Biom (03/12/2016)

More than two hundred people, among students and professionals, have gathered these days in the Campus of the Catholic University of Murcia, to attend the International Congress of Implantology, which in its first edition has focused on new trends in implantology and regeneration that is.

The event, which was attended by the most important figures in the world in this field, among them Adriano Piattelli, recently named Doctor Honoris Causa by UCAM and Professor of Oral Pathology and Medicine of the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Chieti- Pescara (Italy).

In addition, as announced during the course of this Congress, Piatelli will lead, as an extraordinary professor, the new Research Chair in Biomaterials Engineering.

Piatelli, who currently leads the research group related to periodontal disease and the treatment of heart disease, gave his lecture this morning in which he has analyzed the use of certain techniques to avoid the resorption of peri-implant crestal bone;

That is to say, some of the points that today are being tried to update in the dentistry to obtain better esthetic results for the patient.

The speaker, before his speech, advanced during the congress, which began this Thursday, that are analyzing the bases of the future of dentistry, and pointed out that these are geared towards the digital technology applied to this field, the basis of regeneration Bone individualizing the treatments to each patient.

Likewise, he said that implantology "represents the present and the future" of dentistry.

Professor Piatelli also said that this Congress "is one of the most important that have been celebrated so far in Spain, and its speakers are among the best at an international level."

Importance of implantology

According to José Luis Calvo, director of the International Chair of Research in Dentistry, "the branch of implantology represents almost 80% in dentistry", hence the importance of this Congress focused on this theme.

For Dr. Calvo, it is currently very common to resort to this technique "because there are many patients who have lost their teeth for reasons such as cavities, genetic problems, or gum disease."

In addition, the director of the Chair said that through the Master's degree offered by the Catholic University of Murcia on implantology, "we help people who need it, and have no resources, to recover their missing teeth."

José Manuel Granero, Vice Dean of the Degree in Dentistry at the UCAM, said that despite the youth of the University Degree, "in only two courses, we have had time to organize this international congress, to appoint an Honoris Causa doctor Of our field, participate in the Expodental fair, and we continue to work and investigate.
