José Ballesta delivers the 'Matron of Murcia' Carrefour 2016 prize for his long and generous cooperation in the various collection campaigns and the involvement of all personnel group there.
The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Thomas Violante, also presented the 'Volunteering' Ramón Ros Award.
The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today made delivery of the 'Matron of Murcia' 2016 award for the company Carrefour, a recognition granted by the Food Bank Segura-Murcia, for his long and generous cooperation in different campaigns collection and the involvement of all personnel group there.
At the ceremony, the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Thomas Violante, also presented the 'Volunteering' Ramón Ros Award.
The Food Bank Segura (BASMUR) started in 2009 with the aim of reducing social exclusion and help the needy as well as fighting hunger and to use food surpluses, taking advantage of perishable foods as resources solidarity.
In 2015, the Bank managed to collect and distribute more than 1.8 million kilos of food (of which over 200,000 kilos were fruits and vegetables), helping a total of 33,100 people, through a total of 130 charities to which BASMUR attended.
During his speech, José Ballesta wished to recall that the next Great pickup before Christmas this 2016 will take place on 25 and 26 November, and encouraged all Murcia to volunteer or through donations to the Food Bank.
The truth is that the Murcian society is increasingly committed and secured to the sectors exclusion and economic difficulties, as evidenced by the fact that in the last four years has doubled the amount of food collected, having increased by 32% 2015.
