The Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today received participants in the day 'environmental rehabilitation of urban rivers', in which a dozen national experts analyzed throughout the entire day the recovery process different channels Spanish passing through the center of the city, in a workshop organized by professors at the University of Murcia Maria Rosario Vidal-Abarca and Maria Luisa Suarez, in collaboration with the city of Murcia.

"Today we celebrate this day of participation to listen, share and transfer Murcia successful experiences that have taken place in other capitals, aimed at recovering the fluvial environments for social use, which is the ultimate goal of our project: returning Murcia whole environment of the Segura as it passes through the heart of the city, "said the mayor.
"We want to make the 26 kilometers of the channel of Segura, from La Contraparada to Beniel, the most important green lung of the city of Murcia and in doing so, we will have the advice of the best," said the mayor, who added "today we will take note of interventions and contrast the different proposals from a scientific and technical standpoint."
Speakers and topics of 'workshop'
After the tour of the river, Antonio Navarro will be responsible for opening the day with the presentation of the project 'Murcia River', at 12.15 hours.
Followed by the professor of the School of Forestry Engineers (Madrid), Marta Gonzalez, who will speak, from 1315 hours on the 'Environmental Bases for the rehabilitation of urban rivers'.
After the break, at 15:15, the technical specialist Department of Water Quality Control and the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), Evelyn Garcia, try the 'social value of the rehabilitation of the Llobregat river'.
Councilman Works and Projects, Activities, Environment and Green Spaces of the City of Granollers, Albert Camps i Giró, and the Service technician Environment and Green Spaces of the same institution, Xavier Romero, analyze, from 1615 hours, 'Recovery of river environment river Congost Granollers: a municipal experience'.
Then, at 17.15, will address the representative of the Iberian River Restoration Center (CIREF) of Zaragoza, Tony Herrera, who will give the presentation "Experiences in the rehabilitation of urban rivers: Proposals to encourage participation.
The day will end with a final working session with the participation of all speakers at the forum and will run from 18.30 to 20.00.
multidisciplinary work
Murcia has also been a leader in the environmental recovery of the fluvial environment Segura, after recently winning the 'European Riverprize 2015', an international recognition awarded by the Australian Foundation International RiverFoundation and rewards multidisciplinary work that has been carried out for the environmental recovery of the ecosystem.
In this sense, the mayor noted that "transformation projects of the city can only be addressed from a multidisciplinary approach, allowing different administrations, agencies and specialized technicians contribute their vision and engage in an active and coordinated manner."
