A student of the UMU creates a mobile application for the assessment and rehabilitation of language in aphasia (08/09/2016)

He graduated from the University of Murcia (UMU) Alberto Emilio Lopez Garcia has developed a mobile application for the assessment and rehabilitation of patients suffering from aphasia, neuropsychological impairment of one or more language abilities because of an acquired brain injury.

The project is part of your Final Master (Interuniversity Masters in Communication Mobile and Digital Content University of Murcia and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena) Work performed under the supervision of professors from the University of Murcia and Miguel Angel Canovas Oscar Pérez.

The application, which has been called AfasiApp, introduces two innovations in the field of language intervention and, more specifically, in patients with acquired brain injury.

On the one hand, it provides a tool that, using the specific characteristics that provide mobile devices, reduces motor difficulties that often affect such users as regards the assessment tasks and rehabilitation, besides making these more comfortable and effective than traditional paper and pencil test.

Secondly, it enables therapists (speech therapists, teachers of hearing and language and neuropsychologists) can modify the content of the tests and cognitive tests of the mobile application, or even create new tests, without making changes to the source code the app.

The application, now developed for Android, will be launched soon in the markets of Google and Amazon.
