The City doubled in just five years the number of European volunteers (23/08/2016)

Young Murcia continue to show their solidarity throughout Europe.

The councilman of Youth and Development Cooperation, Rebeca Perez, held this morning a meeting with a dozen young volunteers who have participated or will participate in various projects.

Thus, although the European volunteering started in the city of Murcia in 1995, in 2011 it was decided to promote the initiative achieving increase the number of young people who have benefited from the opportunity to volunteer outside the Spanish borders.

As a result it has grown from 24 in 2011 to young people sent 45 sent last year, which was practically doubled the number of European volunteers.

According to the forecasts, during this 2016 will reach 55 youngsters.

Of the 187 volunteers sent from 2011, countries that have received more European volunteers, as host entity, sent by the city of Murcia, are Poland and Finland, followed by Bulgaria, Italy and Luxembourg.

The gross amount that have benefited the volunteers, for the payment of the costs of accommodation, food, pocket money, travel and other expenses resulting from the project, amounting to almost 800,000 euros.

It notes that the city of Murcia launched a project funded by the European Union 'Information and active citizenship: a strategy for the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities: young blind and deaf in Europe and Latin America' through which began a line of European voluntary Service visually impaired youth has meant that 10 young visually impaired the municipality enjoyed for six months and in European countries stay as volunteers.

Also the Youth Service has received 8 young people with visual disabilities in their programs for six months.

The Erasmus + Programme of the European Commission is aimed at volunteers aged between 18 and 30 years who develop the voluntary activity in a country other than their country of residence, through a service unpaid full-time, contributing to the daily work of organizations They are dealing with related environmental activities, ICT or culture and creativity, among others.

The European Voluntary Service is an action that provides young residents of a country program with aged between 17 and 30 years the opportunity to live an experience, framed in non-formal education.

There are two types of European Voluntary Service: the so-called short duration ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months and long term ranging from 2 to 12 months.

During that period the volunteers will participate in a full-time social activity without profit.

To be part of this program, the applicant must contact European Youth Service Programs, planjoven@ayto-murcia.es, where he will advise and help you find the right project.

At first volunteer will adopt a European Voluntary Exchange and once registered will begin receiving information on available volunteer receives the city of Murcia from its various European networks.

When the volunteer is interested in one of these places you will send your resume and a cover letter to the agency that provides the square to select a volunteer.

Once you have selected an agreement between the city of Murcia as sending organization, the host organization and volunteer in the conditions of stay are set to be signed.

Murcia City Council will constantly monitor the project and maintain constant contact with the volunteers sent.
