Let's change wants to end the sexist language in the city of Murcia (23/07/2016)

Councilwoman Let's change Murcia, Margarita Guerrero, has filed a motion in Parliament next Thursday for the government team meets current regulations on the use of non-sexist language in the administrative field and all documents provided by the City Council.

Guerrero explained that throughout history has rendered invisible women and men used the general formula and uniqueness in all areas of society, including public institutions.

State and regional legislation for equality between men and women includes the implementation of non-sexist language in the administrative field and its promotion in all social, cultural and artistic relations, and mainstreaming gender in policies and Administration programs.

The EU also took action to adopt in 2008 a report that collects intended use of non-sexist language, or language-neutral gender, avoiding lexical choices that could be construed as biased, discriminatory or degrading implying that one of the sexes is superior to another.

Councilwoman recalled that local government should act as indicated by the rules and adapt the language in the administrative field to be inclusive and does not contribute to the normalization of discrimination on grounds of sex.
