The municipal center of the Mills River welcomes today I Chess Tournament Council of Murcia, 1266-2016, activity framed within the broad program provided by the City to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the granting of Privilege shot.
In this context, the city now wants to recover those origins, linking the past with the present by holding a chess tournament.
This is an initiative that has been incorporated into this event "as an example of the commitment of the City for the preservation of the traditions," said the Mayor, José Ballesta, who this morning visited the Mills River during tournament.
Among the extraordinary cultural work carried out by King Alfonso X include the collection in 1283 of a chess book, "various chess games, dice and tables" with their explanations ordered by King Alfonso the Wise ", in which describe the rules of the game and 103 issues and 150 miniatures, in good condition, along with the main figures with medieval aspect currently known are included.
The codex is kept in the Library of the Escorial Monastery.
The tournament is organized by the Department of Employment, Tourism and Culture, in collaboration with Ajedrezfácil, and develops from 10.30 hours.
