The University of Murcia (UMU) today celebrated the official opening ceremony Bioclimático Greenhouse, which has been built in the northern part of the campus of Espinardo, opposite the Faculty of Fine Arts.
José María Abellán, Vice Chancellor of Economy, Sustainability and Health Sciences, and Jose Manuel Sanchez of the company Sol Sureste, have detailed technical characteristics of the installation, which has an area of ​​170 square meters.
The structure also has an air conditioning system for geothermal energy, which is based on the use of the constant temperature of the subsoil (lower in summer and higher in winter) for heating / cooling the room through a heat transfer liquid driven by a pump through a circuit.
As part of the Sustainable Campus project UMU, the greenhouse also has warehouse, engine room and space for students and researchers interested in botany who wants to use the facilities.
In its construction they were reused leftover glass of remodeling in the side facade of the School of Psychology.
The greenhouse will be managed by staff Fundown Plant, an organization that works in the care and promotion of the autonomy of the group of people with intellectual disabilities, a fact that has been highlighted by the Vice Chancellor of Students, Quality and Equality, Miguel Angel Perez, during the opening.
The Director General of Universities and Research of the Region, Juan Monzó, has highlighted the "global approach to a project" that has received a grant of 6,000 euros Feder funds.
For its part, the rector, José Orihuela, stressed the importance of research work for the University of Murcia and has said that this "project of excellence" can serve as a model for other greenhouses to be built.
