A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia by Yadira Antonia Miranda Fonseca improve the protocols recommended to prevent infections that occur in hospitals.
This research, which has obtained the qualification of outstanding cum laude, has analyzed a sample of 21 hospitals, from large to small, belonging to the national health system.
To do this, the author of the doctoral thesis reviewed more than fifty protocols, evaluating a thousand medical records to assess antibiotic prophylaxis centers analyzed.
The study found that none of the documents analyzed meets all the required criteria, besides not being reviewed by experts.
Upon analysis of antibiotic prophylaxis, it is concluded that meets eight of the eleven recommendations.
Moreover, the findings suggest that actions to prevent infection in surgical wounds, one of the adverse effects of health care given more frequently, have many shortcomings.
The thesis also indicates the need to improve care planning process, in order to achieve better results in terms of quality and safety of the service provided to the patient.
The directors of the work have been Alberto Torres and Pedro Saturno, professors at the University of Murcia.
