The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the president of the regional government, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, today signed agreement for the development of the Logistics Activities Area (ZAL) and Rail Intermodal Terminal Murcia a new logistics and business district, including within the Mediterranean freight corridor, to be located in the hamlet of Murcia Sangonera la Seca, with a total area of ​​1,900,000 square meters.

The ZAL of Murcia, considered a priority node in the Trans-European Network - network priority for international long-distance-transport infrastructure is configured as a major logistical district in which transport activities and distribution of goods will be developed both domestically and internationally, combining loading and transport by road and rail.

The logistics hub of Murcia includes both rail-road terminal and related logistics facilities.

The project signed today with the participation of the Ministry of Development and is funded by the European Commission.

It also establishes lines of collaboration between the city of Murcia and the Ministries of Public Works and Economic Development, to carry out the studies required for its implementation, which are valued at over 1.9 million euros and funds European cover up to 50 percent (970,450 euros).

Strengthen the productive fabric of the municipality

This action is part of the 2014-2020 Strategic Plan of the Region of Murcia, which provides undertake the first phase of the Mediterranean Corridor (third rail) for the stretch between Alicante-Murcia-Puerto de Cartagena, as well as undertake the completion of Rail Corridor Mediterranean in 2020.
